Got back in about 5pm last night. What an awesome trip! But I feel like I'll be rinsing red dust out of my truck until December!
Will write a full report later but for now here are some teaser photos. My photo count was 758, some of the other guys probably beat me.
All I can...

Well, I finally took the time on Sunday to install my Scangauge.
I have been using an Ultra-Gauge (hereafter abbreviated UG) since October, 2010. I really came to like the way it displayed my MPG and DTE (Distance to Empty) and it became my de facto "fuel gauge"...

So after looking around I determined that Carter Lake would be a nice place for our "shakedown" camping trip with our new teardrop trailer. We loaded her up with what seemed like 50 plastic tubs (wife loves them), hooked up the 4runner, packed up the...
So I'm still working on my fuel storage - I basically need to be able to carry a minimum of 5 gallons.
I've decided the best way to go is with Rotopax fuel packs on my Yakima Roof basket (basket case, the older one.)
Here's what I think I've come up with, I just need to make sure this will...
...Should be here next week.
How does one program in things like the AT temp?
Also, is it pretty flexible about what features can be displayed? From what I've seen it will display a max of 4 fields at once. What I'd like to do is have it display the following:
AT TEMP
Distance to Empty...
OK, so my 3rd gen, like most of them, has the factory tow bar with the 2" receiver and the 4-pin plug for the trailer lighting.
Have hooked a couple of trailers to the truck and noticed the same thing both time: The brake lights, turn signals, and 4-way flashers will light up on the trailer...
Those of you on CO4x4.org may have already seen this but I thought I'd post it here, too.
After talking about it for almost a year and searching for a few weeks, we finally ended up with this:
Our "new" 95 YJ, which my wife just named "Captain Morgan." :sombrero:
Great condition...
So I've been looking on line and trying to figure out the best way to attach 2 rotopax 3 gallon cans to a Yakima basket case.
I know Rotopax makes a round mount that has the attachment points, but how would I attach that to my basket? Any ideas or anyone done anything similar?
Wife has been talking about getting a little "fun" vehicle for a while. We briefly considered an old CJ but given the age and the fact that it's hard to find one that is both in good shape and unmodified has led us to think that a newer Wrangler might be a better idea.
Within our price range...
After my last couple of trips I've decided my new plan WRT my vehicle would be "no more half-a$$ing it." I've lived so many years just "making do" that I figure now that I'm done with school, have a decent job and my 4runner is paid for, I can build it up to be the vehicle I want, not the one I...
Here's the story: Wife and I both like camping but we're old enough that sleeping on the ground doesn't hold much attraction for us. We tried camping in the back of my Tacoma when I had it, but while that works for one person camping, for two people and a dog it's just a little too cramped...
Anyone else here running a glass mount antenna? I picked up a Larsen dual-band glass mount for the 2m mobile in my 4runner. Listened to 2m repeaters a bit on the way into work this morning (weather related - we're getting a mild snowstorm today.)
Sound was not that good. I know my signal's...
As I posted here: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/71616-Thoughts-on-a-trailer?p=1023077#post1023077
Wife and I will be going to look at a teardrop trailer this weekend. She has said that with such a trailer she'd be much more enthusiastic about going camping.
So there's a...
And how well does it do as a tow vehicle?
Wife has said that she'd be more amenable to camping if we had a more comfortable setup for sleeping - to that end we are looking at small trailers. Right now her favorite are the little "teardrop" trailers. Weight on those runs ~1,000lbs give or...
Saw this on CL while browsing for pop-up trailers.

Ranger "Roll-A-Long." 84 Ranger based. Appears to have DRW to handle the weight of the camper.
At $2500 it could be a good project for somebody. Ford Ranger parts are easy to find and...
I'm planning on running two GPS's for my upcoming Moab trip. My trusty old Magellan Meridian will be on a RAM mount, hopefully secured to the dash since it's a heavy bugger and I have had problems with the suction cup un-suctioning at the worst times and the whole thing falling into my lap...
Been thinking of jumping ship from my current Ultra-gauge to a scangauge II. Reasons for the switch would be twofold: (1) My Ultra Gauge will not show AT temp, which I'd like to have. From what I've read on the 99+ 4runners, the Scangauge can be programmed to show AT temp and will still show...
Discussing our 2012 plans with the wife last night, we both agree we'd like to do more camping together (we haven't camped together since 2007 when I had my Tacoma with a shell.)
Thing is, the interior of the 4runner is a little bit too small for two people, a dog and our gear (it's OK for...
Okay, first off a genuine "thanks" to those who saw and commented on my ham install last week. I really appreciate the advice.
After getting some good instructions I went back to square 1 this weekend. It has been cold, snowy and miserable in Denver since Thursday so I was working in the...
Anybody else here ride a Triumph Scrambler?
I've had mine almost 3 years now and I love it! Awesome bike, great build quality, a hoot to ride.
Now I've even started thinking about maybe riding it up to Alaska. Since I doubt I'd get the build done this year, I'd be looking at 2013 at...
