    LiFePO4 Install

it seems to come out of protection mode on its own, over time.. I havent kept that close an eye to it but every time I bring it back inside in protection mode (0.00V across terminals) and leave it overnight its powered again the next morning.. this is the quote I got from BB: However, Ive got...

    LiFePO4 Install

ok I did as @john61ct instructed, charged it fully.. let it sit for an hour: I put 3.6A on for 1H, here is the first 20mins I watched it: After 1h w/load: then I let it sit for an hour, here was its final resting voltage: its charging back up again now for another test w/more amps.

    LiFePO4 Install

I thought it was higher but the BB tech told me to hold it at 14.4v to do a balancing, which means my solar shoulda been balancing it daily pretty much.. My SmartSolar is set to hold max of 30mins absorb before it goes into float, was that not long enough? Its what BB had on their blog about...

Solar Charge Controller with 120 AC input for trickle charging

hrmm, I'm of the opposite perspective.. I really, really, really don't like AIO units that are a single point of failure.. so if it gives you trouble or goes into fault, you loose all methods of charging at your disposal, for what? a few less wires and a lot more money? mebe the unix philosophy...

    LiFePO4 Install

Ive not been taking it down anywhere near that low voltage normally.. I been using SOC gauge mostly and not keeping too much eye on voltage, but from what IIRC, most days I'd never see it get any below like 12.7v w/loads.. it'd always be resting >13v... unfortunately w/BB I dont have access to...

    LiFePO4 Install

So the latest update, I've been in contact w/Battleborn, they been very responsive.. found multimeter and battery was at 0v, in a protect mode.. I let it sit for a day or so and hooked it up to the other battery to give it a "jump" and it came out of protect mode.. I then charged it back up to...

Help me choose a GMRS antenna

I dont have the equipment to sweep bands like that, I do have a nice external SWR meter tho I should go check what it says for GMRS.. I believe its got some good gain even in GRMS range, I was communicating simplex w/handhelds over about 10-20 miles on our Labor Day Caravan back into town... one...

It’s Here! Jeep Wrangler with Diesel News

you can get an ALH up to about 300ft tq w/a turbo upgrade and injectors, and they still ultra reliable.. man I'm jealous.. at this point I'm convinced it'll be easier/better to just fix up the TJ, sell it.. import a canadian a VW Iltis... the ALH will bolt right on in w/out any trouble at all...

Help me choose a GMRS antenna

I use the CA-2x4SR for GMRS and APRS, it performs quite well.. I've conversated simplex w/people on top of a mountain 30 miles away w/5w using 2m.. I'm also using it for my mobile GMRS repeater and APRS Digi in the trailer, and it does well enough for what it is.. both have springs and are...

I doubt they are both geared the same tho, so you'd want the gearbox out of the diesel also.

Super-simple 12v power source for fridge?

"Deep Cycle" is mostly marketing snake oil, it has very little meaning anymore.. and even then, for the good expensive deep cycles, you still needa treat them well, especially with the added money.. they will tolerate going lower than 50% a few times, but if you make a habit out of it.. the'll...

    17 inch vs 18 inch

One could argue the same thing for 99% of the Trucks and Jeeps w/AT's.. In my opinion, tires above all else dictate where you can and cannot go, not the vehicle.. Good Tires and reasonable clearance will get you further than all the 4x4, Low Range, Locking Diffs, Winches in the world. I went...

    17 inch vs 18 inch

You can deflate the KO's as well and it'd be very unlucky to be taken out by a mere stick.. latest MDX dont even come w/a spare tire, nor did my friend who got 2 flats this weekend. You dont know what OP's gonna do, I drive an Audi Q7, the supreme grocery getter.. and its been to more places...

    17 inch vs 18 inch

Go compare the sidewall of an unmounted all season vs an all terrain.. its like over 1/2in of rubber vs hardly 1/16in of rubber.. one easy going loose shale mountain pass can take out multiple all seasons, I've seen it happen.. last weekend in fact, to a friend of mine, took over 12h for the tow...

Super-simple 12v power source for fridge?

I have an ARB 63, and had a 100AH AGM Solar Generator w/120W of solar.. without solar, no way it was making it to day 4 without ruining the battery.. and with solar and me never leaving camp so I could ensure the panel was always in the sun, I coulda got 4 days but the battery never got fully...

Super-simple 12v power source for fridge?

Highly Unlikely... dunno what fridge you have or its specs, but they can easily consume 20AH+ a day, and if you discharge a 100ah battery more than 50% it'll be dead in short order.. so two days if your lucky enough to have a pretty efficient fridge.. maybe the solar will let you hit day 3, but...
