Yes, I have spoken to Jeff at Bruisers, until something changes with the current legislation, this is an off-road only conversion. The only people that I know run it on-road are in Colorado for example, where in certain counties emissions are not tested.
You will not here anything until Jeep manufactures a Wrangler with a Diesel in it. It is not ability or demand that is holding it back. It is legality. You can't currently get a diesel Wrangler registered, especially if your state / county requires emission tests, if it is not originally offered...
There are multiple companies offering diesel conversions, including Bruiser. The issue is that they are only marketed for off-road use due to the fact you can't get them registered if emissions tests are required in most states.
The big problem is that diesel has been tracking at higher than gas prices.
Based on your concerns, alternative fuels and options are the way to think rather than diesel. But we are a ways away from that.
While still not as efficient, there are some interesting gasoline engines rolling off...
I love my Metalcloak setup.
Another option if you are running 35's is to run tube fenders and they will clear no problem.
The stock JK control arms are pretty good. You can always add stiffer springs and shocks of your choice later.
I am also not a fan of the AEV rack. I love the look, quality, and functionality of the Gobi rack but am concerned about its weight and cost.
My leaning has been to the Frontrunner as well. I am about ready to buy one.
It is what is used on the Entdecker as well as many other true expedition...
