Haven't Chevy v8's always been considered the poor man's preferred choice for an engine swap?
Not that a brand new LS is cheap, nor that the LS is a bad engine. But the engines seem so simple and easy to put together that they’re well-suited to project builds.
That leisurely pace seems perfectly suited to a commuter sedan or crossover.....it doesn't marry up so well with a truck hauling a load for a hunting trip or cross-country trip.
I think the push for EV trucks is purely for marketing and show. EV cars may become mainstream soon enough (at least...
Dodge (now Ram) and Jeep are an interesting case study. In general, their reliability rankings have been subpar at best over the last decade or so.
I think there is an argument to be made their reliability has improved as of late, but its still not necessarily competitive with some of the...
No OEM is without fault. But the frame recall is a thing of the past. Toyota's trucks and SUV's haven't had any major issues since then (some Tundra owners claim the 5.7l leaks oil from the factory, but there is no indication that it is common or catastrophic).
I agree that no manufacturer...
Chinese made, but supposedly that engine is powering F-250's in certain overseas markets...I have more confidence in an American designed, Chinese made engine than I currently have in the Italian sourced ones. Don't get me wrong: the Italians make great sports cars, but for 4x4-levels of...
1000lb-ft I think would be beyond what most of those driveline components could handle, but I do see where you're coming from with regards to the price point. I think the better solution is to drop the price: $100k would still be a lot, but if I won the lottery I would consider paying that much...
4bt I think was the best fitment-wise. Plus, when its tuned properly, it offers more than enough torque to get up to realistic and safe speeds. Those vehicles were designed back in the day when anything much above 55 mph was considered reckless driving (at least in a truck).
I didn't notice...
Ford makes a good 1/2 ton, and a good 3/4 ton for that matter. But I think the whole 'best selling truck = best truck overall' is a stupid and petty logic. Ford has a good economy of scale going, that and I do think they cut some corners with regards to their 1/2 ton's (their high payload...
What corners do you think were cut? I haven't seen one in person, but it seems like they went overkill with the restoration: boxed the frame; axles from a newer 3/4 ton; front and rear locker options. I don't know that a Legacy PW is worth the current asking price, but it seems to be a quality...
Similar story with the Legacy Power Wagons: absolutely amazing attention to detail, and they have raw and unfiltered 4bt Cummins engines as options, but you're talking house-mortgage levels of money to buy one.
I understand these builders deserve compensation and I suppose the market demand...
I'm not saying the engines have much of anything in common other than the fact that VM Motori designed both of them. I'm sure there are some common design themes to be found in both engines, but that's pretty standard for any engine company.
I love the attention to detail, but asking $130k...
While the 2.8l inline 4 and 3.0l v6 are different engines, they are both designed by VM Motori, are they not?
Rumor is that the Jeep will get the 3.0l v6, but has that been confirmed?
Unfortunately, I share those exact sentiments: certain FCA vehicles seem to do alright in terms of reliability (Jeep Wrangler being one of them), but the brand overall has been consistently ranked low in reliability rankings and the company has been slow to address major problems (ecodiesel...
I believe that a US-spec'd Hilux (with the appropriate suspension) would meet the demand in North America just fine. I have less of a concern about Toyota cutting corners and softening up their Tacoma's and Tundra's for us dumb Americans....after all, despite the differences with the global...
Is it just me, or does anyone else think that the global Ranger looks a whole lot more BA and offroad-ready compared to the North American version, even without the steel bumper?
I'm glad the Ranger is finally coming back into the North American market, but why the hell didn't Ford just give...
Well seeing how this is an overland-focused forum, charging in remote locations or during/after long trips is very relevant to any EV that might take the place of an internal combustion engine vehicle. It's great that you're able to recharge your vehicle in your garage over night and wake up...
Tesla model 3 has a rated range of what? 300 miles or so? The issue is real word driving range doesn't always align with the factory ratings. Same can be said for many internal combustion engines, but with the widespread availability of fuel stations and the quick (minutes instead of hours)...
It takes time for major corporations to make decisions on these types of matters. It often takes time to even recognize there is a problem to begin with; companies have to separate the wheat from the chaff when it comes to analyzing consumer complaints.
People complained about airbag issues...
