    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

Only real hangup was that damn valve spring retainer. To be realistic, thats something that NOBODY needs during head work. Its just my luck I needed one. Everything else is available, especially if you are willing to order from Japan. Sources here in the US simply are not keeping inventory...

    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

Happy Holidays all. I was lucky enough to have a quiet Christmas at the house with just the wife, so some things in the shop got done. :D Im quickly running out of parts to bolt to this engine, so that's a good thing! Still waiting on the OEM oil pump, shipping delays.... so the pan cannot go...

    Stock Shock Replacement f250

Yes, both failures were blown seals. And bottoming is def possible. Both failures were with the stock coils. And there were obvious witness marks of bottoming out the bump stops. Time will tell now that we have the higher load rated coils.

2012 Ram 3500 Halogen to LED upgrade

We are running $40 fanless Katanas in our 2011 F250 We have been running them in our reflector housings for a couple years now with zero regrets. Incredible light coverage, sharp cut-off and zero ice/snow buildup problems to speak of, and we live in North Idaho. Just do us all a favor and...

    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

Quite the saga finding parts, but Im getting there. The machine shop found a single cracked valve spring retainer in their teardown and inspection of the head. Obsolete part, of course. After weeks of coming up dry finding the part I started hunting for a cheap/junk head to source the retainer...

    Stock Shock Replacement f250

Nothing to do with shocks, but a better steering stabilizer is advised for these superduties with larger tires/lift/leveling. We run a single heavy duty bilstein, a considerable improvement over stock.

    Stock Shock Replacement f250

We still are running the KYB Monomax, for the moment. We run heavy, so the heavy duty shock is helpful. Though I have been going through front Monomax shocks. Ive had failures between 15 and 20k miles, twice now. The rears are holding up. If the front set have trouble again, I'm going to push...

    Heat Recovery Ventilators

Read my previous post. Again, its not a heat issue. Though you could split hairs about efficiency all day. ;) In my book the amount of heat you are loosing, and the little amount of heat needed to replace it is so small that adding complexity, cost, and weight of a fancy setup simply isn't...

    Welcome to the 10-year club

Yeah, that's a mentality I'm still trying to sort out. My instinct tells me its typically more money than sense, combined with a "keeping up the joneses" All motivating the "custom builds" that are often little more than a bolt-on affair. Social media sure the heck doesn't help any.

    Welcome to the 10-year club

Id say there is a third type of person in there... The one that knows what they want, is willing to put in the effort to do it and do it right, and reaps the rewards. While I loved every portion of the build, from design, to construction, to finish... from the word GO I designed it to best...

    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

Thanks, now if parts actually show up.... This evenings bit of work was held up by a single $5 O-ring. Discontinued by Suzuki/GM, but I managed to find a NOS source. This single O-ring seals a coolant passage that travels between the main block and the midblock/girdle. It showed up...

    Welcome to the 10-year club

Sorry, no. Due to this forum and many members and their inability to accept anything wood as a great building material, I chose to post it over on the (old) pirate4x4 forum, which has since been lost to the sands of time. If you'd like some fun reading material check this thread out.... ;)...

    Welcome to the 10-year club

End of the year this rear is officially the 10-year mark for our custom camper. I know the list will be painfully short, but Id like to see who else we have here in the club. A short bit.... I designed and built our camper from the ground up. Its a true 4-season camper, that weighs 2200lbs...

    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

Still waiting on the cylinder head to be finished by the machine shop, so I dug into the transfercase gear swap. Trans was removed from the chassis and transfercase separated and plopped on the bench. Its a cute little thing :ROFLMAO: The gears are legit Japanese gears, that provide a 72%...

    80psi Tire Options - 35" or 37", 17" rims, 3PMS

There are plenty of benefits for narrow(er) tires. Id never consider wide, "flotation" type tires for one reason.... Snow/Ice winter travel. A narrower tire is simply safer. Especially for those of us that do not bother with a dedicated winter tire. We walk that line. Capacity, stability...

This thing was born for snow. A have to say... its looks a bit out of place in northern NV.
