Power question: REDARC DC-DC charger? What gauge of wire would be needed?

batteries really wont overload wiring like loads will.. yeh see if the wiring is too small, the voltage just drops far enough its no longer changing battery.. so you can basically limit a batteries charge rate with the wiring, while it may get a lil warm its not gonna catch cabling on fire like...

Diesel for overlanding- are you happy with the choice?

Diesels higher compression definitely requires a battery to deliver alot more amps to the starter.. which combined with cold, thick oil and a reduced capacity battery does make it a bit harder to get going sometimes.. cycling glow plugs a few times just drains battery even more.. However I've...

Questions about trailer solar systems and charging off the tow vehicle, and shore power

typically you dont want anything but the battery on its side of the main cut off.. this way you can unplug shore power, shut that off and you know everything is off for short storage or working on the electrical.. this way you dont have to pull battery cables and worry about em floating around...

Research/ Experience &Concern about Trailer Manufacturer Response

I have a Discover Flyer, they no longer make it.. but IMO it was the best one they ever offered, my build is in my signature.. try not to be too hasty to judge about one email exchange, alot of these companies are rather small and it is like show season right now so many might be on the road...

A Little Different M416 Trailer Build

mebe some angle under the mesh for better support.. Have you figured out your consumption rate? I have a 30# horizontal, after 4 days in April running the Wave + Propex all the time I only used ~25%, which would give me ~2 weeks in spring/fall which is what I was shooting for.. my trailer's...

Questions about trailer solar systems and charging off the tow vehicle, and shore power

yep, I've got 40A of solar on a 30A controller now and its still hard as hell to max it out because in the real world conditions are not ideal, and if they do its for very fleeting moments.. that top 25% is very hard to tap into, you need like a sun tracking setup and to minimize all other...

    LR3 4.4 What octane?

on a modern EFI vehicle the fuel is going to detonate before the spark plug fires causing pinging (firing before its at the top of the stroke), which the knock sensor will detect and the ECU will respond to by retarding the timing, stopping the pre-detonation while reducing power output without...

Questions about trailer solar systems and charging off the tow vehicle, and shore power

install the BMV first and then after some testing and field runs you'll have a much better idea what you want.. that was like item #1 for me when I completely re-did all my trailer wiring... that data then drives your next purchasing decisions because now your not just guessing, you know...

Questions about trailer solar systems and charging off the tow vehicle, and shore power

might try testing a smaller load on it and see if you can figure out its limit, alot of those cheap china inverters are not worth their weight and really struggle to meet their spec'd output.. might just take the thing out and forget about it. a toaster is a nice AC load tester, they pull...

Questions about trailer solar systems and charging off the tow vehicle, and shore power

my 325W Panasonic does >60v.. definitely need a MPPT charger for house panels or your just going to see a fraction of the output on a 12VDC bank.. I didnt even think you could hookup that much voltage through a PWM w/out toasting it.

Questions about trailer solar systems and charging off the tow vehicle, and shore power

oh no.. its just got a 10A 12VDC power supply in it to back feed. 1500W is 1500W at 120v or at 12v.. at 120v its 12.5A, at 12v its 125A.. If your Inverter is putting out 1500W its outputting 12.5A @ 120V, but its drawing >125A from your 12VDC battery bank (more because inverters are not 100%...

Battery charger comparison: Sterling vs ProMariner

any way you can move the B2B closer to the house batteries? All charge sources (B2B/Solar/Shore) should be as close to their batteries as possible for best results. what are your house batteries? 14.8v seems a bit high for most deep cycles.

Questions about trailer solar systems and charging off the tow vehicle, and shore power

consider making it portable, if ANY part of the panel is shaded its output will very tiny.. but yeah start taking it out and figuring out what you wanna upgrade/change based off your needs.. thats a nice sized panel and should do a good job at keeping you out longer as long as you can keep it in...

Questions about trailer solar systems and charging off the tow vehicle, and shore power

is the compartment vented in any way? like natural convection possible? it sounds like its not an 'engine room' safe charger so they are worried about it making a spark that could ignite fumes.. unless its airtight cabinet it wont concentrate enough hydrogen to be flammable when charging so I...
