Are you guys rotating in an "X" or just front to back on the same side? The Tundra manual shows front-back only. Curious if there's a benefit to crossing sides when rotating?
Sounds more like feathering then to me. I can run my hand across it and feel that some lugs are higher than others, and that it is generally uneven. Probably alignment and lack of rotations in my case. I think it's been well over a year since I rotated, and that means it's been well over 5K...
Honestly it's hard for me to tell what I'm seeing. I can just tell that the lugs are not wearing evenly. I'll see if a chalk test tells me anything, and if there's something that can be photographed.
I don't notice any of the classic bouncing from bad shocks, but then again I bought these...
Two from today. First one is of the opening section of the trail (and coming back down in the video above). You can get an idea of the incline from this shot:
Really dusty out there today
I finally had a chance to hit the trails today. Went up into the mountains with my friend and his Jeep. We hit the Tripod Flats trail in the middle of the Manastash area, part of the Wenatchee National Forest. The trail was awesome and very rough. Everywhere his Jeep went, my Tundra went...
I'm definitely behind on rotating my tires. I've done it a couple of times since I bought them, but it's been a good amount over 5K since the last time. How often should I be rotating if I'm not running a sway bar? 3K?
Do you remember how much it was to have new ones pressed in? I'll...
Looks like I'll be looking around for a good price on OEM LCA's with bushings already installed, instead of pressing in new ones on my current LCA's. I've read that replacing the bushings is like slitting your wrists and doing pushups in salt water. Unless you guys have had different...
Agree with bkg. 4Runner's are pretty capable stock. Adding all the other "necessary" stuff is not cheap....I know because I've done it. Read lots of build threads and try to figure out what your specific goals are. No sense in adding things that really don't help you reach your goals.
That's what I was thinking. Never replaced to my knowledge, nearly 195K on the clock right now. Visually they look okay, but you really can't see much of them so it's likely they are worn out. Most people say it is easiest to replace the entire LCA rather than just the bushings.
Any thoughts...
I *may* have found the solution to my vibration issues.....tires.
Had my mechanic do a thorough drive with me and under truck evaluation. Driving didn't sound like wheel bearings, vibration definitely noticeable in driver's seat (pedal, floor, steering wheel), but not hardly at all in...
I think I'm going to make simple drain and fills part of my yearly routine. Perhaps I'll have the tranny flushed again before I do that though.
I have no idea on this. I'd think that the shifting is pretty well set because there are products out there (for Tacoma's) that adjust the shift...
Here's what it looks like without the panel on there in case anyone is interested. Not much room. That is the factory amp in the lower right hand corner.
My truck was beginning to feel a bit sluggish on the shifting, so I figured it was about time to do a drain and fill on the ATF fluid. I had the tranny flushed at the dealership about two years ago (~20k miles) before I began towing with it. The truck shifted significantly better afterward. I...
Thanks, and I'm beginning to agree with you regarding Duratrac's. My experience has been less than positive. Nice truck! When I ordered my Superwinch they accidentally sent me the steel cable version, which I was able to return for the correct one, and I was surprised at the difference in...
I was wondering the same thing about the panel behind the seats in my '05 DC. After seeing some of the MOLLE panels that guys were making for Tacoma's I was curious to see if it would work on the Tundra. I removed the panel to see what sort of space was available and it's not much....hardly...
Well, the road force balancing didn't change much. A bit less bumpy, but the underlying vibration is still definitely there and remains unchanged. So now it's on to the rear axles and/or axle bearings.
Also, finding a place that does road-force balancing was way harder than it should have...
I was really hoping to go to the rally this year, but that just wasn't possible. Too many irons in the fire right now.
Next year for sure. It looks like a blast.
I'm getting the tires road force balanced right now to rule out tire issues. If there is still vibration (which is likely) then I'll have a shop take a look at the rear axles. Could be bent, or i guess it could be axle bearings too.
Without sway bar the truck body rolls a lot more when turning...I thought that the increased roll would wear out the outer edges of the front tires faster.
Also, I misunderstood what you meant when you said "flip it 180 degrees". I thought you were talking about removing the tire from the rim...
