Truck is in the shop today at Mule Expedition Outfitters, where it is getting a rear end rebuild and ARB locker install. I haven't picked up a compressor yet, so I won't be able to use the locker until then. Fingers crossed that this resolves my worsening vibration.
This has been an awesome thread. Very informative and helpful, with useful insight from lots of members who have experience with different setups. Too often threads devolve into useless bickering and all the helpful information is buried. This has given me a lot to consider as I plan my rear...
Do you sag when you tow the boat, and does it make it harder to control while towing? That's what's holding me back from redoing my rear suspension. I also tow a 21' wakeboard boat and need something that can do that safely. In my case it will all be about compromises since the truck will be...
Wow, so jealous. I didn't know Solo made a kit for mid-travel. And I really like the heim steering rod. Everything about this kit looks far more stout than stock.
Puttering around while I wait for the rear end rebuild, I noticed something a little odd with the driveshaft. It almost looks like the rear axle is off centered?? I took a string from the center of the front driveshaft flange and took it straight back to the rear diff, centering the string on...
Very nice! How long did it take to swap the leafs? And how do you like the ride on the Deaver's? Soft/hard, increased travel, etc?
I'd like to do a leaf spring swap at some point. I'm mostly unloaded in the bed and am wondering how something like the AG/Deaver's would ride in that...
I'm leaning heavily toward revalving front an rear to progressive. My fronts are due for a rebuild, the rears are new. But before I do I will talk to one of Icon's rebuilders about whether or not revalving the rears is necessary, given that mine are adjustable (though they are still...
I found some information on the Icon 2.5" rears with CDCV adjustable valves (which I have). The guy I talked to didn't have the exact measurements for this, but came up with these numbers based on the dimensions of the parts. So these may or may not be fully accurate. This was from Icon...
I don't know, but it seems like it would. That may not be a bad thing if you are adding a spring pack that raises you up. It seems like there aftermarket spring hangars for Tacoma's are longer (hang down further), therefore the ride height should be unchanged with a longer shackle. I think.
I'm not really sure what Fox shock people have been using. I've just seen them on pics of Tundra builds and for all I know they seem to do okay.
I think the biggest thing to find out with any of the options above is what is their extended and compressed length. If the extended length is the...
The only person I've seen run King's front and back on a gen 1 Tundra is lhanson. But his were custom made front and back and cost a lot. Plus he did custom rear shock mounts. More often I've seen people run Fox on the rear. They are progressive valving similar to the Kings.
I've been doing...
That's good advice. I have not ridden in a truck with a shackle flip so I have no comment on how they ride. I do lots of highway and street driving, with tight trails and rocks being a distant minority. I would love the increased articulation, but I also don't want a truck that is iffy on the...
I'm doing some research/thinking on my rear suspension plans and haven't quite come up with a solution yet. The rear end is terrible on washboard and bumpy roads. Currently have stock springs with 1.5" block lift (previous owner) and 2.5" Icon's with adjustable valving. It's not a great ride...
I'd love to regear but I'm kind of tired of spending money right now. If I regear the rear then I need to regear the front and I'm just not ready for that. The bill for rear diff rebuild and locker install is a little over $2000 and I just don't want to spend more. Can I do the rear and just...
While my truck is parked in the garage waiting for the rear diff rebuild and ARB locker, I've decided to tackle a few other projects. First up is the jack.
(note: I like the way Sal R. has done his thread, so I'm formatting mine now like he did.... Hope you don't mind Sal!! ...
After my last jaunt up into the mountains (see previous) the noise and vibration I've been trying to diagnose got significantly worse. Now it really kicks in at 40mph and is much stronger.
Out of curiosity I put the rear score on jack stands and had my wife get the wheels up to 40mph. I...
Nice find! I'm looking forward to the install of the Deaver's. Redoing my rear suspension is on the list for next year, so it'll be nice to see how other people set theirs up.
