    JK/JL Jeep Camper Concept

I may have missed it, but since you removed the jeep integral cage, did you do anything to stiffen the chassis for torsional flex or was that unnecessary?

there was a tsb on the tcase, where if it failed before 80000 or so they would cover it. something was shimmed wrong and it would cause vibrations. there are 20 years of scotch between me and that memory though. take it for what its worth.

Lighten that load. Recovery gear, snow chains, flatbed decking....

Outside of the steel cable none of the stuff you're hacking seems superfluous. Either you travel places where chains may be useful, or you don't. Why sacrifice the durability and effectiveness on the front for socks when you already own the chains? Either you think you may dismount the box, or...

I may need to see an ophthalmologist, but, did you just inquire as to if a truck is still on the market 17 years later?

How much? pics? And go to slee offroad for the rundown on model year difference. Thats the same year as mine, and keeping up on maintenance, like oil changes and timing belts it ought to be fine. Id be more concerned about the/if rust. If its lifted on 35's the 4 speed will make it a bit of a...

An incident worth talking about. Kinetic Recovery Accident.

The difference in energy between 5mph and 12 mph is a factor of 6. So for that jeep you went from about 5000j to 30000j. It's kinda tough to locate any other contributing physical factors when your process permits that kind of user error.

2024 Land Cruiser in the USA?

On that note, every truck has design decisions that seem to defy reason. This is better than a 50 gallon tank and 10mpg. I think we can also take 10% off of epa estimates. Suv's never get the estimate, except with the trip computers that are always 20% optimistic.

2024 Land Cruiser in the USA?

What? the people want 500m range? lets build a drive train that can get it, then decrease the tank size just to screw with them.

good theory as to how it missed the mark.

Just stick with the frame and leave the tech out of it. does the heavier frame make it more reliable in and of itself? If I'm picking up 2000lb loads with an steel shackle with a 3000lb wwl (and 5x failure), does using one with a 10,000lb wwl increase my odds of repeated success??? Contrary...

good theory as to how it missed the mark.

It was theoretical statement intended to demonstrate the difference between reliability and durability, which is often confused. Merely using stouter parts intended to be durable in a heavier truck, does not result in increased reliability if used in a lighter truck.

I still don't comprehend as to how the engine Buick designed for a car going into a series/defender in my example was any different than the merc bits used in a car going into a gwagon. I'm missing your initial point.

good theory as to how it missed the mark.

you take a 3500lb 180hp jeep and put an axle thats designed to last 100000 miles under 7000lb 400hp truck and is 100% stronger than needed to reach fail. Is it more reliable for that 100000 miles? No really. it's still the same amount of rotations under loads that never cause any appreciable...

good theory as to how it missed the mark.

I'm not sure how its different. Buick is a car company and designed a massively oversquare engine to favor rpm over low end tq. awesome for a light car in the 60's, but not ideal for a truck. and landrover put it in a truck. it wasnt until the 4.6 that they actually lengthened the stroke...

good theory as to how it missed the mark.

Why would you take it personally and be annoyed? Calm down Francis. It's just a car. Land Rover used a Buick sourced V8 for 40 years, and the drivetrains in 463 G wagons have a divorced t-case, so they were lifted complete from sedans no alteration to the transmission housing. I would have...

good theory as to how it missed the mark.

I doubt durability is an issue. I think where there have been issues, is when utilizing off the shelf parts from various manufacturers, they still need to integrated to function smoothly. If time isnt taken or the budget isnt there, you get foot humps higher than the pedal height to accommodate...

    No commentary needed....

Why does the term "recaro" mean anything to anyone? Back when GM buckets felt like sitting a bucket, they were great, but... today stock manufacturer seats in any premium car are better integrated and more comfortable. Nothing we are discussing with new suv's involves is track day with a 911...

I asked the dealer while I was there about this, as he's 4.5 hrs from me. I asked, "Will you guys be working with BMW?" He gave an unequivocal NO. When one thinks about it, there are BMW dealers everywhere there are actual Ineos Dealers, so if they worked with BMW the dealers would have to...
