Firestone makes one or did a few years ago. Quad control I believe was the name. Airlift has a similar one. Cruisemaster makes their own, I'm not sure if you can buy it separately.
They're called air suspension controllers.
They are pretty easy to get aligned, assuming the install is good. Only four bolts to loosen and shims come with the axles, again assuming the manufacturer gave them to the owner. Let me know if you have any questions, we have a couple of sets I could unbox and help.
All drawn up and start cutting this week. The render model will be on the FORTCampers.com website next week.
It will allow any style rack to be mounted. First one produced will have an ultra low mount thick has crossbars 1” off roof.
Will be able to run a “prinsu” style rack. We will also...
They have been doing this longer than everyone else, and it shows. Always been good guys to deal with. Gotta say pricing is about right for the materials and work.
You could always put a cover over it as a trailer has. Easy enough to climb up on the cab and open it. If you want one that bad. Tern windows all around.
WIthout checking engineering specs 2x2x.120 tube should be fine on a sub 2000+ # trailer. That being said you can break anything! We use 2x3x.120 for 3500#, but engineering wise we could have stepped down to .083 wall and been "adequate." Wanted to be more than adequate! LOL
We had a large RV dealer next to our shop for several years. The biggest majority of their profits were warranty work. They were booked months out for it, and this was pre covid. A huge percent of new US-based tradition RVs have issues off the lot. There was just an article written by an RV...
I have to agree with you. The limp mode and disabling systems when it doesn't like something is kind of a big deal. Only going to continue to get worse I'm afraid.
Unfortunately, it won't work easily as a retrofit. If there is interest, we could offer it as a stand alone, bolt-on system. Specify the track and frame width and done. For our production, it will be welded, but very easily could be bolt-on. Finishing up CAD work and hopefully have a demo...
Just starting production on our first topper, should have them available in 4-6 weeks. Renders will be on the website next week or so. Steel bolt together frames with aluminum roof/door panels, side doors, approximate weight 225-250 lb depending on the truck. Very similar to all the wedge...
Corner steadies AND brakes for the win. Alko or Ark. We use them on our 10', 3000lb, lift top trailer and it's rock solid even with two people working and moving around inside. Brakes are super important, without them you're still rocking and stressing and no jack/steady will deal with that well.
Unfortunately, the Airstream is like every other US built RV, built with small sticks and staples, on a frame that meets the minimal engineering for smooth road driving. Airstream does make a very nice version of it and they do it better than most. But barely a dirt road camper.
I imagine their concern with an easy to disassemble topper would be water egress. We're prototyping a steel frame, aluminum shelled topper and debating the possibility of shipping disassembled for costs. The problem we see is if the customer doesn't assemble correctly and if it leaks we, the...
As far as lining up height-wise, there are many options to set that up, just as with regular hitches. For a recovery, it doesn't have to be perfect.
We have drug ours over rocks, gravel, sand, you name it, never any issues. Like I said above after a 360 roll we just drove around without...
And I will add that Timbren's customer service has been amazing! We've spent time talking with their engineers and they have been incredibly helpful. We work with many international manufacturers and Timbren has been top notch.
