I love 6 spoke wheels on Monteros, I think they're perfect. I really wanted some era correct Japanese aftermarket wheels for a Pajero but they are really expensive to import. I actually found these on accident, my grandfather wanted me to find him some Chevy rally wheels for his K series 4x4. I...
I'd really really advise against this on a Gen 3, as is their ball joints can tear away from the arm. They're not as reinforced as the Gen 2, I've seen it twice now so if you do install a spacer I'd have someone beef up the arm where the ball joint sits. Alternatively you can buy the Total Chaos...
Realized I hadn't updated in a while, still plugging along. Installed a pair of fans worth 3280cfm of airflow up front.
Then I got working on my exhaust which I absolutely hate doing but for the price of what you get at an exhaust shop anymore I did mine myself. Went with a single 2.5"...
I'm at about 275k of some pretty hard miles in the same truck, if you're up to date and regular with maintenance I'd say the tires or battery are the most common things to leave you stranded. Keep a basic tool kit and things like hose, tire and wire repair kits along with a few fluids.
Your best bet is to learn how to 4 wheel with a sway bar on and connected, it's actually very predictable compared to other vehicles. Montero's just don't tip easily, with time you'll get comfortable with a tire waaaay off the ground and master the 2-3 wheel crawl. If you get to the point where...
I also recommend Luso Overland, he actually has parts in stock ready to ship. I've gotten tons of stuff from him over the years, he even bought all of the Toasty fab and Montero Collective stickers up front to help get them out there. Marco is a solid dude.
That should do the trick, you may need to add a thin washer to the mount to make up for the missing factory parts but I'd try it without first. If you get some preload on the donuts I think you're good. your arm is pretty well shot, that stud is a consistent diameter.
It's the Gen 1's that break, they were thin around the bushing. Those pictured look like the cups that are welded to the mount, they're not supposed to come off and there isn't a replacement part for them. If you do need those replaced there are 2 per side and they keep the donut bushings...
There are a couple styles, do you need the thick ones with the recessed bolt or the curved ones? also do you need the leading and trailing washers or just the ones under the nuts?
Extra suspension travel on the Gen 3 isn't in my opinion the best for dollar per capability points, extra travel is great and so are huge tires but the money is in gears and lockers. I'm working on a real long travel rear suspension for the Gen 3 in my head, My buddy has a truck to experiment...
I've made one complete and helped a few others with theirs, basically it's worth it if you're planning on wheeling and running 35" or larger but if you're just trailing and doing rough FR roads just stick to 33's. In general, 35's plus require crawler gears if you plan to 4 wheel which will run...
The 2.5 fog lights are projectors but good luck finding any without the broken outer glass, have you used the Wagner yellow glass sealed beams Charlie? I'd like to French a pair into my front bumper, they're readily available and cheap to replace when they ultimately get broken just don't know...
