    1990 Montero V8 project

Got the frame all cleaned up, seems like this truck was welded on a Friday by the apprentice. I don't think I've seen factory welds so bad on these trucks before, it's looking good now. Test fit the Gen 2 SAS frame plates and they line up perfectly! I also rolled the JL axle into place and...

Probably has, I bought it off a retiring field mechanic. I wish I had more money back then because I'd have bought his whole truck, he really wanted me to buy his line boring machine and welder.

Got the new axle home finally, ordered up the new suspension joints too. I think I have most of the things to start really putting it together (Mighty Max for attention).

I got all the IFS cut off, no luck saving that torsion bolt but for now they're readily available and I have a few of them already. I really did want a complete IFS hardware set and those are the only ones that don't interchange with anything else. Oh well, onward and upward!

Well, I was trying to gently disassemble the front end but lost my patience with the driver side torsion bolt. Don't worry, I'll get it out.

Little update, I lucked into a complete blue interior. This kinda made me take things a bit more seriously with the truck, having been parted out previously it didn't have much value in my eyes. So, with the truck now being complete and in decent condition I started putting the feelers out for...

    Toasty's '98 Montero Build

Walking foot, good to know. The cloth I want to use is for commercial vehicles, I want it to be really easy to clean and maintain. I tend to get interiors wet or muddy or worse things like transporting children.

I love it! Can't wait to see it out on the trails and exploring.

    is 4x4wire gone?

Right, we have the archives. It's really just the nostalgia of the old forum because it can't come back online as-is, it's a loosing venture. The idea is a completely new website with a forum but we haven't really hashed out how to add value. Lots of ideas but some are too expensive to execute...

    is 4x4wire gone?

Yeah, it's thousands of dollars. I think collectively we can pull it off but then there's putting it back up which also costs money.

    is 4x4wire gone?

Jamie archived it and we're in discussion on how to rebuild it however there's a lot of money involved in purchasing it from John. We haven't decided how to go about it or how to pay for it, personally I'd like to see it community owned and operated but still we need to have a plan of action first.

Hopefully I'll be repainted and looking good again this winter

@z168 On this one I did scrap the 4WD to make the v8 swap easier, the '98 got special treatment and still has it's Super Select 4WD behind the 5 speed auto. This truck I don't plan on keeping, it's mostly for fun and to hopefully recoup some money from my last swap because I bought a lot of...

@CharlieNorth that's what I was looking at, I don't have access to a TIG outside of work and I'm not allowed to work on personal projects at the shop. So it needs to mostly work as is, I might be able to sneak it in for something quick if absolutely necessary. The rad I found is a universal...

Butchered up an SC400, Gen 2 Montero and Gen 1 Montero fuel pump hanger assembly to make another returnless system for this truck similar to what I did on the '98.

Got the intake plumbing done and I finished the exhaust! Here's a few more pictures of the core support and engine mounting. I've got to make a driveshaft, plumb the fuel, hook up the throttle cable and figure out the mechanicals for the shifter setup next. The big ticket is the radiator, the...

Working on cropping the fenders to clear 40's just in case, doing them proper this time. I started by drilling holes aligned with the stock mudflap holes spaced at each angle on the fender then folded them over and welded all the seams. Looks nice enough for a wheeler. Still have to do the other...
