Sorry I just saw this question. I have never been a dehydrated meal guy but we found ourselves taking a month long trip in our JKU after dropping our son at college which meant that we had no room for a cooler. This turned out to be a bit of a blessing as it forced us to rethink our packing and...
I am a bit late to the scene here and will link my video on sausage making. I have made quite a bit but would not say I am an expert, perhaps decent amateur is the right word. Bottom line is that the sausages split due to internal pressure so I normally prick my sausages before cooking them...
We did a long trip recently and relied on home dehydrated meals which were delicious and so easy to make. For a bit more complexity but still keeping with a simple theme we do a lot of dutch oven cooking-one pot (generally) and clean up is pretty easy as we often use the pot as our dish washing...
If anyone is interested I have 4 15% discount codes for Snow Peak online (I assume USA only) good until December 31. They offer free shipping until December 13 I believe. I got these at Overland Expo West and won't be able to use them so if you would like one just send me a message and I will...
The resurrection of this thread is very timely. I just posted a video on my YouTube channel using the GSI pressure cooker to make a Green Chile Jambalaya. I talk a bit about it and the recipe is pretty dang good so check it out if you are interested in seeing one in action.
I have all kinds of knives that I use in the kitchen including high $$ carbon steel. For camping I use a set of cheap Kai knives that do everything I ask them to do. Granted I am more limited when I camp as well. For more robust items I also have a set of the Prometheus Field Knives...
Hey Riptide. That is quite the collection you have there! I just posted (above) my review of the new Takibi Solo on the YouTube channel (above) and am of a like mind with you on my thoughts. I was happy with the way that it burned and didn't clog and look forward to getting some real world...
I got to use the Takibi Solo last night and think it is a fine addition to the collection. If you want to check it out and hear my thoughts the video is here-
I also noticed some comments on the Solo Stoves. I have a couple videos on the page for those as well. One video you might want to...
Keeping up with the new Snow Peak releases I just received my Takibi Solo. I have not burned it yet but posted the unboxing on my YouTube channel (below) if you want to have a look at the set up. I will burn it in shortly and post that as well. I hope this is helpful!
I use the Titan and Campfire as well as the Ranger and Bonfire. I agree that the camp stoves are light and easy to carry but find that I grab the Firebox G2 more often as it is more versatile and packs flat (tho heavier). As you say the bigger ones are not really designed for cooking but I have...
Boy I was tempted too but hesitated a bit too long and they are sold out. I already have too many portable pits (is that possible?) so was trying to rationalize the decision. I know that was silly but I can't wait to hear your impressions and where it fits into the mix as it looks like a...
The first burn of my new Snow Peak Floga and this thing works as advertised. It is a great addition to the large pack and carry pit (or large Takibi as they call it now) and would recommend to anyone who has one. You may have noticed I preach light weight and efficient packing so the only...
I just did an unboxing of the new Floga on my channel and will do a video of the burn in a day or two. I was interested in seeing this product as it would allow the more efficient burn into the night after the cooking is done with the pit. If you want to check it out the link is below.
I have the Gwok version that is similar to skittle. It is well made and works great for what it is. They take up a big footprint when transporting and I would likely not take it on a long trip where items need to be chosen carefully but for a weekender it is a fine frying device with lots of room.
There are getting to be a ton of portable fire pits out there in all price ranges. One of the benefits of the Snow Peak is that you can set it up inside most provided fire rings in the parks and thereby be "legal". I have never seen an actual log grate that folds down and would pack easily (but...
We use an old Tidy Cat Litter 12# tub that we repurposed. Won't hold a full bag of charcoal but most times we use the charcoal as a backup to campfire coals anyway or in the small Snow Peak BBQ box or dutch oven so not going through it very fast anyway. If you don't have a cat certainly a 5...
I remain a bit befuddled by the focus on burner BTU in camping stoves. Looking at high end home ranges such as Wolf their large burners are 15k and my Coleman white gas are 10k. I have never had any issue cooking anything on my Coleman nor any problems boiling water. To generate more BTUs you...
