Is It Worth @ $30k to Make Your Newer Taco Look Old ? ?

Sounds great to me, except for the unavoidable lack of legroom with the '82. Actually I'd be happy with the '82 as it was back then, except with a newer Toyota EFI truck engine instead of the old 20R. Even 22RE would be OK. Would also need a high end paint job to keep the rust demons away...

Best engine for Land Cruiser Troopy

    I vote for this engine.

    Hello Landcruiser forum,

Location? The first two years of the 80 series had the old 3FE. It's a great engine but somewhat underpowered for these large full time 4WD beasts. The 1FZ is an even better motor, though it tends to sprout multiple oil leaks. Usually not in an excessive manner, so you can either ignore or...

IMO they look appropriate on Troopys, ridiculous on anything else.

Is It Worth @ $30k to Make Your Newer Taco Look Old ? ?

$30K gets you a 60 series look alike grille, headlights and bumper, plus knobby tires wrapped around steelie wheels. On the interior, the leather gets replaced with cloth. Oh, can't forget the fresh paint job. There's where all the dollars go. That's a lot of cash for strictly cosmetic...

    80 Series Maintenance costs?

How many miles per year do you envison driving the beast? That could make a big difference. Any maintenance records? . If previous owners did their part with front end, brakes and cooling system you might not need to spend so much. Mine had the original starter at 201K miles. Every once in...

Is a Land Cruiser really better off-road than a Tacoma? My experience says the opposite..

So you traded the 80 for a Taco? I'd like to see photos of the new rig.

    This is the one !!

The 80 series body is probably no more rust resistant than a 100 series, but far more rust resistant than a 60 series. Of course, the worst of all is da Iron Pig, FJ55.

Have you heard why Toyota went with torsion bars on the 100 series rather than coils? Of course, a torsion bar IFS can be fairly stout. After all, that's what the 90's Toyota pickups and 4Runners were running with their "high trac" suspension and they're quite tough. Not a lot of articulation...

Is It Worth @ $30k to Make Your Newer Taco Look Old ? ?

What, no photo of a retro Taco? Customers must be holding their breath in anticipation. :p The older rigs do look better. Tacos look terrible after the lst generation. Hilux are the best. Cruisers started losing it looks wise with the 100 series. Or, arguably the 80 series since it's a...

Gotcha. I thought the 105 had the same engine as the 80. Either FZ gas or HD-T diesel. No V-8! The 100 series body is larger and less attractive than the 80, IMO.

    This is the one !!

Why? It's basically a 100 body on an 80 frame and drivetrain.

    This is the one !!

It's basically new, at triple the original price! As they say, the 80 series strikes a good balance between a classic and modern Cruiser. It's the last of the inline 6 and SFA, with a way better suspension than the older ones. That's a big deal for some people, such as myself. I love...

Is a Land Cruiser really better off-road than a Tacoma? My experience says the opposite..

The pickup sounds like a better choice for your preferences. A simple little 4 cylinder and 5 speed manual Toyota truck is surely one of man's best friends. I miss my old '92 a bit. The rear frame was going on that one too. A Cruiser will be way better in snow, apparently not an issue for...
