Also try put the transfer case in neutral while the engine is running and go though the gears in the gearbox . Have a look at the center bearing too. Any different with the Free wheeling hub in or out?

The seal will be on the inner not outer , there is a gasket on the free wheeling hub that is pretty easy to make or reuse the old one. Seal should be 72mm x 96mm x 8mm and total with lip 12mm

Seals for front wheel bearing for a repack or front wheel bearing kit if you need them to be replaced. A good pair of circlip pliers to take the circlip off the drive axle. Wheel bearing grease. Brake shoes, brake cylinders. Degreaser ,gloves and dont forget hand cleaner lol Its not a bad job...

The wheel nuts should be the same as most 5 stud 2wd or 4wd and sum Rosa buses 1990 to about 2007.

Shifting into or out of 1ST gear? I very rarely use 1St most of the time take off in 2nd. Does it change into all other gears ok? Any clutch fluid leaking from master or slave cylinders??

Good old truck What rims? 5 spd box? 1st gear may not have syncro ??? As you would normally take off in 2nd gear it may not cause too much trouble ,change the gearbox oil and see what it looks like. Look under the floor mat for rust . is he open to offers???

Canter 2002 to 2008 FG649 is pre common rail 3.9 turbo intercooled. Pretty easy to work on.
