    JK/JL Jeep Camper Concept

The biggest lesson I learned from the Jeep I drove around Africa is that jobs you have to do every day start to consume your life, and you want them to be as minimal and quick as possible. Making the stowing the bed fit that description to a T, especially when you move basically every day like I...

    JK/JL Jeep Camper Concept

Mine will have a bed platform upstairs, I think Michael is currently planning to have his downstairs area convert into a bed. Again, a great way to learn the pros and cons of each approach with a direct comparison. -Dan

    JK/JL Jeep Camper Concept

I don't have Michael's fabrication skills or attention to detail, so I had the interior of mine built by Goose Gear in California. I am extremely happy with how it turned out, and I think it's going to be fascinating to compare Michael's interior to mine. I am loving the differences in our...

Where to buy *really* long gas struts?

HI everyone, I'm designing a custom pop-top, and I want to use gas struts kind of like the following: I want the struts to be really long so I have tons of angle on them when the roof is "up" So far I've only found struts to a max of 44" when fully extended. Does anyone know where I can buy...

The failure rate is less than 2%. As usual it's just the minority making a lot of noise. -Dan

    Gladiator - Good/Bad?

I have the EcoDiesel in the Wrangler and it is by far - by FAR - the best engine Jeep have ever put in the Wrangler. My 3.6 Gladiator was always just lacking a little, it would hunt from 8th to 5th back slowly up to 8th just to maintain 60mph up an incline. The Diesel just sits in 8th gear no...

    Gladiator - Good/Bad?

And that right there is the deal breaker. I wouldn't have been able to get to many of the places I have on the planet because it would have been impossible to carry enough gas. Never mind it would have cost almost double in fuel (around $35k for my Africa trip). That is a vehicle that just...

    Gladiator - Good/Bad?

What engine do you have in the 80? The best LC might be the 200 with the twin turbo 4.5 V8 and the auto. Buy far number one in Australia for towing. -Dan

LMTV too. Those things are downright terrible on the road. -Dan

    Gladiator - Good/Bad?

I'll take that bet. The 70 series is not what many people think, and it would never be accepted by US consumers. An auto journalist friend of mine flew to Australia a couple of years ago, and Toyota lent him a brand new 78 series troopy with the 4.5l v8 Turbo diesel. This is a $120,000 vehicle...

    SEMA Show 2023

Sorry I missed you Jeff! The door of my Jeep was open during the days, I assume you got there either really early or really late! I wandered around inside most days and kept an eye out for you, but in all the madness I couldn't see you. Next time I'm sure! -Dan

    Any JK ABS failures?

Hmm, corrosion or a loose ground were going to be my next suggestions. My only thought is see if you can get the ABS module from an auto wrecker.. or keep researching and see if you can use one from a different model year. I'll be really interested to hear what it actually is.. -Dan

    Any JK ABS failures?

Does it only happen when you're going around a corner, or does it happen on perfectly straight sections of road too? -Dan

Barn Door for JK factory hardtops

Are you heading to SEMA again this year Jeff? I'll be there for the first time since 2019. Should be a great time! -Dan

Time to buy a Gladiator? $20k off MSRP’s!

My Australian Gladiator Rubicon had that transfer case (rack-trac with full-time 4wd). It was the only option on the Rubicon I think it's designed for people who don't understand 4wd, and want something like a Subaru so you can just leave it in and it will save you on snow or gravel or whatever...

    AEV quits the JK

The challenge is the price of the tooling they need to remake in order to get production going again. If they sold 150 kits at $7k they still would not have even covered the cost of tooling alone... Also if it's such a license to print money, why hasn't anyone else copied it? -Dan

    AEV quits the JK

The JL Bumper is now available for the JK, and I think it looks fantastic. https://www.aev-conversions.com/product/ex-rx-front-bumper-jk-wrangler/#select-front-bumper I think it's pretty impressive they were able to design the bumper for the JL and also have it backwards compatible with the...

Ursa Minor Camper Shell for JT Gladiator

Have you had it across a scale fully loaded for adventure? I'm curious if it's possible to stay within GVWR with the canopy camper. Everyone I know with one is well over 1,000lbs over the legal limit, even with the max tow Gladiator. -Dan
