    Land Rover ideas for Jeeps

I just spent some time with a couple here in Canada who have this exact Alu-cab roof on thier Defender 110. It was great to put it side by side with the Ursa Minor and compare them. The 110 is cavernous inside compared to the Wrangler, and I really, really liked how the bed sleeping platform...

    cargo area storage cover mods/ideas

I welded a steel plate over the larger cubby, and hinged a door with a lock so it's a lockbox. In three years around Africa only one border guard ever found it - nobody else knew it was there (under a piece of carpet). .... I had around $3,000 USD cash in there... A long time ago there was a...

    JKU Suspension dilemma

Yes, it is extremely unusual. I've spoken to three (four?) major Jeep aftermarket suspension companies in recent months about designing and releasing such a product (i.e. minimal lift, BIG weight carrying capacity) - and all of them said there simply isn't a market for that and they're not...

Wow, it fired right up - that's great! Does that little engine have glow plugs? -Dan

    JKU Suspension dilemma

I have one too... and it's simply too small. If the rain is even slightly sideways you only get about a 1 foot street of "rain free" space running down the middle (which isn't where my tailgate mounted kitchen is) With a side wall or two it would be better... but I think it's just too small...

    JKU Suspension dilemma

I went through the same dilema with mine - I really wanted it to handle all the weight (around 6, 000lbs), but not be sky high. I started with an AEV 2.5", but they warned me it wasn't designed for the weight, and they were right. Now I run the AEV 3.5" and it's good, but the weight still is...

    Highroller Jeeps

With that grill on the spare tire and the front runner tank in the rear footwell they look "South African spec" to me. -Dan

AEV Lift Kit Question - Sport VS. Rubicon

That part of your Jeep interested me. As far as I know, all JK Unlimiteds have a 22.5 gal gas tank from the factory. I confirmed this with someone *extremely* knowledgeable in the JK factory & aftermarket world. -Dan

Cool Jeeps You Can't Have - Mahindra of India

Thanks very much Jeff, that's extremely helpful! It's all just spit-balling right now and likely a couple of years out, but it's certainly food for thought and keeping me excitedly pouring over maps! Cheers, -Dan

12V plugs and sockets that are not cigarette lighter style

Thanks, I had a good look at those, but I can't find any kind of "flush wall mount" for the female. It appears they are only for "the middle" of wires. I want to be able to have one of these in the dash, and another in cabinets, and another in a charging block, and it would be great if they were...

Cool Jeeps You Can't Have - Mahindra of India

Hey Jeff, Do you have any idea about the legalities of a foreigner purchasing a registering a vehicle in their name in India? Buying one of those and exploring for a few months is getting more tempting by the minute! -Dan

12V plugs and sockets that are not cigarette lighter style

Ohh, thanks, good info. Unfortunately it seems like Amazon doesn't have the 90 deg. ones, and alibaba wants a min order of 500! I'll keep digging -Dan

12V plugs and sockets that are not cigarette lighter style

Sorry all, I should have been more clear. I really don't need connectors that can handle 30, 60 or 90 amps. That's mega overkill I'd like the smallest and most convenient connectors that handle 10amps without issue. Cheers, -Dan

12V plugs and sockets that are not cigarette lighter style

Anderson connectors are great, I just find them WAY to big and bulky for what I want. Part of the reason I don't want traditional 12v cig lighter sockets/plugs is because of how bulky they are! -Dan

12V plugs and sockets that are not cigarette lighter style

OK, to answer my own question, it seems like the SAE plugs can work really well for what I want. So I'll cut that wire in in the middle, wire the receptacle into my vehicle in a convenient spot, and then wire my laptop charger to the plug end. This one comes with 10AWG wire. If you go with...

12V plugs and sockets that are not cigarette lighter style

Hi All, I'm bumping this thread because I'm designing my next expedition vehicle, and I want to re-visit this topic. For my Africa Jeep I wound up using these connectors: They're "5.5mm x 2.1mm barrell connectors" They worked quite well for most things, and I still use them to this day and...

    Ursa Minor Pop-Top Jeep JK

I mostly used mine for the sun in Africa, and to be honest it really only works when you drape a towel or something else over the side to try and increase the shade area.... -Dan

    Ursa Minor Pop-Top Jeep JK

I have the ARB 1250 on the back of mine - it's been there for 4+ years now. To be honest, it's not great. It's just so narrow that if the rain is coming in even a little bit sideways you only get about a 1 foot strip in the middle that is actually rain free. With side walls it would be better...

JK130 | Custom TDI Diesel Parallel Hybrid Jeep Wrangler with composite camper build.

I love this project, and can't wait to see it develop! May I ask why you've decided you need 1140W of solar? That is an IMMENSE amount, and I struggle to believe you'll find anything that can really use that much. I have 200W on the Jeep I drove around Africa, and it's always been plenty. In...
