Welcome to Expo! Anywhere is fine by most people, but with the Land Cruiser, you may be more at home in the Land Cruisers section. In the mean time, ask as many questions as you want, the community is very friendly here. The Land Cruisers section is Forum/Expedition Vehicles/Land Cruisers...
Keep Looking
As everyone else said, keep looking. There is a lot to replace in the engine bay alone by the looks of it. Rust is almost certainly in the frame already. I spent 1600 on mine, and the only thing wrong was a little rust in the fender wells. Keep looking brother, your diamond is out...
Really it just depends on what you pack and how you pack it. I drive an 86 4runner as a DD and Expo rig, and I have no complaints. Not much to speak of as far as power goes, but they are reliable, decent mpg, and super easy to work on. The real question is, what are your plans?
swap...
Or, if you want to that bad. I am about to do a five speed swap into my 86 auto. The tranny is in decent condition, but if you want it PM me and we can maybe work something out. I can provide the complete wiring harness also...:sombrero:
Great minds think alike...
Keep it coming! I plan on doing this exact same swap in my 86 as soon as I do a tranny swap. Also, let us know what your seeing performance/mileage wise. Subsribed! :coffeedrink:
Rebuilt head
All the gaps were good, and it doesn't use any oil. So I just swapped the head over and she's running like a top. Little tick, which is perfect. On the old, the tappets had impacted the valves and had some pretty large dents. Two of the tappet screws had broken off. Now that my...
Update!
Haven't had the time to be on here in a while. :coffee: I want to shout out to EXP-T100. He supplied me with almost all the parts I've been looking for. When me and the better half move through the area, we're going to have to take you for dinner and a drink. Lol. Thanks for all the...
Thought about an OM617 TD swap? Sounds like a perfect way to go. I will be doing the swap myself within the next year. tdswaps.com i believe has the full swap kit. Check it out! I know mercedes diesels are readily available almost everywhere...
New Photog!
Hey guys, I'm new to the game! Here are some of my recent shots on FLICKR. Tell me what you think, and what improvements I need to be aiming for. They are all snaps, as I have not had the time to set any frames up. Thanks for the comments...
What do you think?

My first shots with new camera. I like this one quite a lot, but what does the community think?
I'll be in need of a head pretty soon. It's tickin' pretty hard at the moment. Not blowing any smoke, but I fear that the particular valve/rocker is about to give. It's easier for me to just swap in a fresh head. I really want to do a five speed swap, and am looking to do it pretty soon. Aside...
Seems to be about my luck. :coffee: It will all come together though. Plan on sleeping in the vehicle itself, so I'm going to build a sleeping platform with storage underneath. Probably take out the roll bar and who knows what else. Already have an inverter, just need to find a dual battery...
Obviously I'm not going to use someone elses used bearings or main steering components, as that would be stupid ( minus being broken in a 3rd world country). The latter thought was geared toward bumpers, maybe used OME style springs, anything that is robust and still has many miles still left in...
I need to go through the suspension and front steering components. The steering is easy enough, i can get those at autozone or the dealer if need be. I would like to put at least like new suspension in though. My wife will be going with me, and she's not much on the rough ride. :coffee: I need...
I am currently in the build process of my 86' 4Runner for my trip through Yellowstone and Glacier NP's next year! If you have anything that could be useful, let me know! This is likely where I will post my build thread. There is not much to pick from as far as parts and accessories go in my...
I want a good adventure bike that can do just about everything. Is this a good start? There are a couple of BMW's for around 5, but I want the best bang for my buck. Thoughts?
