Wood is in place to act as an insulator in the electrical cabinet and give me a place to mount the components. Once my master fuse and some connectors show up I can get everything hooked up.
Also got the drawers faced and ready to go. Now they just need some paint and hardware. Cant...
More progress is coming along, mostly been electrical work at this point. Got a 100aH AGM battery which should be overkill for my needs at this point. Battery fits well in what has become the electrical cabinet. Automatic charger, 800W inverter, fuse panel, etc will all be in here along with...
My $.02: don't extend the tongue, chop up the box, etc... that is a rabbit hole that most projects don't come back from. Your trailer is also likely coated in CARC and you should read up on that before you touch that thing with a grinder/sander. I'd say put a bed and some storage in there...
Big step done today... finished the table and it collapses into the bed. Also built my daughter's bunk so we can all sleep comfortably. Bunk collapses and fits under the dining bench. Will need some sort of rail that clamps on so she doesn't roll off and land on me, but that'll be an easy fix.
Stove doesn't have any markings on it, unfortunately. It's a very cool setup that I salvaged from a train car. It was almost built into the cabinetry and was meant to run in there without burning the place down. The upper door is the double-wall firebox, lower door is the ash bin with a big...
Yes, one piece is attached to the upper portion and slides on the lower. A second piece attaches to the lower and slides on the upper. Basically, picture a wiper on each that slides on the other.
...and to the current state of things: painting was halted due to cold weather, my wife painted some awesome murals on the interior end walls, I survived the test burn of the wood stove.
Total cost thus far is right around $700, most of which feels like it has been POR-15, butyl tape, and...
That axle won't be staying under the trailer... it's a ford 9" so someone out there in the hot rod world wants it. Once I get a weight on the finished trailer I can decide whether it gets a 5200 or 7k axle.
Cool idea with the alternator though, I had to google it. Didn't know people did that.
Installed the new vent and a stove jack for the inevitable woodstove... coated the entire top with white Durabak.
All of the exterior screws were replaced with hundreds and hundreds of stainless screws. Lower portion painted with Rustoleum industrial and the new foam insulation is in...
Sold the Ford bed and refinished the trailer...
Bought an old service bed on marketplace that will fit the camper
...then put them together
Total cost to this point (including the sale of the Ford bed): $100
Yanked the camper off of the trailer and took stock of what I was dealing with.
Water damage dictated that the upper corners would need to be replaced as well as the entire floor. Good thing the floor on these is exactly 4x8'. Floor was removed in a very precise fashion.
It's very...
Thought I would bring this project over here. Family has been tent camping forever and our system is pretty well worked out. We did, however, want a better winter/bad weather option. This also includes camping in northern Wyoming/Montana so stress-free camping in bear country was a priority...
