    Arctic Ocean Expedition: March-April, 2007

LOL, too funny. Actually, we haven't even made a final decision on the food yet. We know that we definitely don't want to take a bunch of crap and eat road food continuously. We plan to stock up on some quality nourishment. We'll post up when we get the food shopping done. undefinednomad...

    Mapping programs

Allen, that was a fun trip ;) I will also throw in my vote for Ozi. I am a relative newbie at it too, but despite that, I have actually been doing trips with Ozi for years, thanks to good friends who have been using it for so long, like Uwe (WhiteThaiger). I got to see Uwe use it under...

Here are mine They are Firestik hood channel mounts. On my Tacoma, they do keep the metal a little shiny right where they are mounted.

MSR Dromedary bags & assoc bits

I have the hydration adapter - http://www.msrcorp.com/hydration/hydration.asp - and I had to put a hose clamp on it to keep it from leaking. I returned the first one, and the replacement leaked as well. This was a few years back when I purchased, so I would imagine they have it fixed by now. But...

    GPS in foreign countries

I just might also add (for those with a GPSR that has mapping capability - most new ones do) that unless you have detailed maps for wherever you visit, you may only have your coordinates and a bread-crumb trail of your track to use as a reference on the otherwise relatively blank map screen.

    Hiking Boot Recomendations

Just to chime in on the Danners, yes - they still make a plain hiking boot. I am now on my second pair of Mountain Light II boots. I went through 3 pairs of vibram soles on the first set before I had started to wear out some of the stitching. They just fit me really well and I can hike for days...

Just inherited a new laptop - now what ?

Yea, it's a good deal. It comes with a 120v charger, a 12V charger, and a USB connection so you can use it wired if you want. Consequently, this is my first post from the road - I'm in the right seat traveling down the highway in AZ. Pretty cool! GR, I haven't used the mapsource software as a...
