Looking for a 3.5L Gen 2 rear axle, open diff

Gen 2 has 4.63 gears, gen 2.5 has 4.29. I agree you'll more likely be able to find a 2.5 open.

Looking for a 3.5L Gen 2 rear axle, open diff

Did any gen 2 SR s come with open diff? The LS has smaller axles and diffs. Something like 8 inch ring gear vs 9 (but I don't recall exactly)

    Traction control gen 3 question

I think there is traction control and stability.... in my experience, stability seems to cut power to help you get the car under control. I have noticed that the lights do flash when things start to slip.... it's kind of helpful to see which wheel has lost traction

    Stuck crankshaft pulley bolt

FWIW i've never done the starter method, but I don't think you want the crankshaft pulley holder in use at all. The purpose of the pulley holder is to prevent the engine from rotating when trying to undo the bolt. You only want the socket (and perhaps breaker bar) on the crankshaft bolt. You...

Help needed diagnosing intermittent overdrive '99 Gen 2.5

Did the check with car in neutral after a 40 min drive home at about 50 mph.... fluid came up right in the middle of the marks on the dip stick. I had an extra 1/4 quart and dropped that in this AM just for fun.... From what I'm reading the 30-43LE trans is pretty solid, so I'm leaning toward...

Help needed diagnosing intermittent overdrive '99 Gen 2.5

Vehicle running, after having driven several miles (the last couple of times was after I got home after my 18 mile 60+ mph commute) on a fairly level surface, but does have a slight slope where the rear of the vehicle is lower. I'll stop in a dead flat parking lot and check again today. What's...

Help needed diagnosing intermittent overdrive '99 Gen 2.5

Update 4 After 3 months and several thousand miles, the problem is back. I suspect an overdrive solenoid, and posted a picture earlier in the thread, however, that is not the transmission that I have. On closer inspection, I have a 30-43LE trans. It appears to be common in a lot of vehicles...

Gen 2.5 Rear Door Latch Sticking

I changed out the door lock actuator this last weekend... you might want to pull out the lock mechanism and lube it up. There are a lot of metal on metal points and springs. You also might want to lubricate the plastic piece near the inside handle that shows if the door is locked or unlocked...

    Stuck crankshaft pulley bolt

Threads are normal, counter clockwise will remove it. I would think that with a big breaker bar it would come free easily. How about pull out your torque wrench, put it at the 120 or so ft lbs that the bolt requires for tightening (verify with the FSM), and try to loosen until you've put that...

    Marutuk's Gen III Build

The p0171 came and went for me throughout the last 8 or 9 months, but was more regular the last couple of months. I've got a feeling that more gen 3s are going to start to show a leak in the butterfly valve opening in the intake. Glad it's holding for now though! Was in Utah over Christmas...

    Gen III Alternator

I would just pick up one at auto zone that is the same rating as what you have now. Should be a quick swap. Pull the positive terminal on the battery first though. Sent from my SM-P580 using Tapatalk

    Marutuk's Gen III Build

Driving around tonight got p0431.... looks to be a bad cat on the drivers side.... which makes sense because that was the side with the cracked exhaust manifold.

If you weren't getting check engine lights, probably failed on visual inspection. So far so good.... Going to try to hit up smog tonight

Montero V6 - Timing Belt Tensioner Failure?

I actually think you can do the tensioner without the whole belt coming off.... assuming you can pull the crank pulley off with out the crank timing gear coming off too. Use some binder clips to hold the belt on the cam gears. Be sure to put it in tdc before you begin. Once the tensioner comes...

    Multiple Fault Codes...Thoughts?

Check out this post and link to what might be your p0171 issue. Pretty easy to determine by shooting some carb cleaner into the area and listen for change in idle. http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/166265-Gen-3-p0171-and-sometimes-p0174-possible-fix?p=2210864
