Help needed diagnosing intermittent overdrive '99 Gen 2.5

I'm not sure of the fluid, but I know the PO used nothing but recommended fluids. Looking at the fluid on the dip stick, it doesn't look dark or discolored, and doesn't smell burnt. I have some SP3 that I used to top it off with. All of that being said, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to do a...

Help needed diagnosing intermittent overdrive '99 Gen 2.5

I've read the same about the coolant temp sensor, I have an OBD2 reader and the temps being reported are not fluctuating that I've noticed (will monitor closely on my way home today). There is a secondary temp sensor that operates the gauge... and my gauge is working properly as well. I am...

Help needed diagnosing intermittent overdrive '99 Gen 2.5

OD worked great all the way to work. Started cutting out about 3/4 of the way home..... I do park on a flat surface at work, and a slight rearward decline at home.

Help needed diagnosing intermittent overdrive '99 Gen 2.5

'99 - Gen 2.5 - 161k miles A couple of weeks back on my way home from work, my transmission began shifting in and out of over drive, ie jumping from ~3k to ~4k. The button on the gear selector seems to work just fine. If I use the switch to disengage OD, my RPMs don't jump around and the...

Gen 2.5 heated seat swap in Gen 2?

I have heated seats and have an unused male plug connect to my heat switches. There is also a male plug in there for the adjustable suspension. One of those is probably for that.

TOP DEAD CENTER 3.8 TIMING BELT QUESTION ASAP

If found that if you turn the crank gear back (counter clockwise) 1/2 tooth or so, when you get everything set and rotate the engine clockwise, that 1/2 tooth will pull in any slack between the crank gear and the cam gear on the drivers side.

    Spring options for gen 3?

I need to slap on some new struts on the front of my 03. While j have everything apart, was thinking about replacing the spring too. At 164k miles. They feel sad. Problem is, outside of OME, I cant seem to find a replacement spring. I'm OK with keeping thing stock height, and one lifts around...

    Gen 3 cats/downpipes

What codes were you seeing? I'm getting poor mpg in my 03, I think it may be related to a cracked exhaust manifold. I have codes that come up for a day or two, then go away. Last one was p0171. Went away after a day or two of driving

welcome to the jungle; anyone reaplce a rear sliding window on a 2.5 gen ?

Looks brand new! I kind of figured that if someone was going to break in. Those windows would be the way. Crummy to have to do the job though.

Baofeng the official Mitsusbishi trip radio of choice

These radios will not TX (transmit) or RX (receive) on CB frequencies. It isn't difficult to get the basic license that will cover you on these radios. IMHO it is a nice little bit of communication kit for when some major disaster happens. The radios are stand alone and need no 3rd party...

Crank gear and crank gear separate?

The pin for the gear is similar, just MUCH larger..... I want to say that I've had this issue before and also used a flat screwdriver to assist. the gear isn't buried very far into the pulley. thinking of it further, you will want to separate them... the gear has a dot on the front of it, so...

Crank gear and crank gear separate?

Yes, they can be separated... Even the crank position sensor blade separated. Just be sure you line everything back up, there should be key way, and couple of pins. 2 for the cps blade and one for the pulley. Just reread your Q.... I don't think you necessary need to separate them, but...

pretty good Timing Belt video on 3.8L V6

Doesn't look like a Montero 3.8.... Very different. And IMHO, easier on the Montero.

How is the idle controlled on a 2003+ (3.8L) Gen3 Monty?

My 03 will die with AC on if I've disconnected the battery recently. Usually driving around for a couple of days, sitting at stoplights in neutral, manually keeping revs up so engine won't die. I think it lasts long enough for the computer to compensate and then I don't have any issues...

    Gen 3, 3.8L - actual engine temp?

After what I think was a failed fan clutch, which lead to a minor over-heat, which lead to a water pump gasket failure (followed by me forgetting to put the radiator cap back on and emptying out all of my coolant again) I've got my 03 back on the road.... And yes, it is possible to change the...
