The earlier trucks used smaller diameter bolts. I've seen this wear issue on alot of trucks due to the spring plates being installed upside down. If they are installed correct then you should have zero movement. There are also alot of crappy pads out there where the backing plate is not quite OE...
I'm an x-Rover dealer tech of 10yrs and all I remember about the tank recalls were that they always told us to "LOOK FOR OTHER THINGS IN THAT AREA OF REPAIR" in order to snag you with a bill in the end. I still bleed green and drive Rovers daily but the "art" the dealerships SUX! Congrats to you...
Do the height calibration after you install the "Johnson Rods", bigger tires, winch bumper and all your other gear. Or you could just convert it to coils and never look back! Congrats on the new "Primary" driver.
