    Optima Batteries....which one?

Thanks. I currently have a fairly large area, as I am using the big Optima 31 battery for my aux. I think I should be able to fit a 31 size from Odyssey or Lifeline without too much trouble. I am going to verify though.

You are very welcome. Yes, I think that would work. However, as was mentioned, you might consider an Odyssey or Lifeline instead of the Optima if you can afford it (I think they cost more, but I haven't checked lately). They just have a higher amp-hour capacity, which is a good thing where a...

    Haze, Haze, Everywhere!

While AZ, NM and CO have enjoyed some substantial rains this year, I think there are a fair amount of fires going on elsewhere west and north of us. This may have something to do with it, but I don't know. The Grand Canyon definitely is more hazy now, as all of the smog from California and Las...

Welcome to ExPo  If you have Long trails, I would also think replacement would be wise. If you decide to get a fridge, be sure to get a "real" fridge, and not a thermo-electric unit. And if you get a fridge, be sure to address the power consumption needs so you are not left stranded...

Very good point BX, and I thought of mentioning that too, but figured I would be straying too much since he didn't say anything about wanting maps for outside of the country. :smilies27 I should have known better since we are talking about Seth here... so good catch!

Oooh, a little solar boost! Very cool. It's always fun to see how your camper changes and evolves with your needs and objectives. Nice job on the documentation ;)

    Dual Battery Management

Scott, I have been suspicious of my Optima ever since we did the Climb n' Crawl earlier this year and the thing went flat while I had it parked in camp. I just ran a little test with it (Optima group 31 yellow - the big one) using my fridge. I started off yesterday with pre-cooling the fridge on...

Cool, did you find some reviews/feedback on the Lowrance? Like perterra said, RAM makes a burly suction cup, and it will accept a bunch of their different device cradles.

Is the micro-SD card on the Vista a proprietery card? Just curious, I can't recall. The thing that turns me off about the Vista is the tiny screen - it is the smallest of your 3 choices. A pain in the butt when you are using it in the truck. If it were me, I'd be researching the Lowrance more...

    On The Road w/ KC ~ August 6 - ?

I don't know which I like better, the words or the images. :clapsmile I really look forward to your posts from the road KC - good stuff! I think this one is my favorite - two lanterns double the light when things seem really dark :costumed-smiley-007

    Dual Battery Management

Hmmm... I would say probably not. By using solar, you would just be adding the capability to recharge the battery (or batteries) while the engine is shut off. I can't really see how it would really have any bearing on system choice, other than maybe a Xantrex system which likely has an...

Scott, I would recommend running the trail from west to east if you intend to camp on the evening of the trail run. This will put you on the eastern flanks of the mountain with higher campsite elev's and more shade (high desert chaparral, and riparian areas) vs. the sonoran desert (alluvial...

Nice. Are you planning on doing some trails that warrant the t-case skid? They are definitely good insurance. I have never done anything "hardcore" enough to warrant installing one on my truck (always seemed to find other mods I wanted more), though a look at the little stock skid plate shows...

    Dual Battery Management

Adding solar would be a fantastic addition for a vehicle that sees plenty of sunny trips and enjoys being parked at a camp for any length of time. If you can get past the high cost, they are a fairly simple and effective way to extend your remote camping with a fridge and other accessories...
