Struggling with Solar Setup - 100 Watt Solar + Lead Acid + Lifepo4 Power Pack + Dometic Fridge

Just curious what the need/logic for the second smaller Isolated battery (under the hood, I’m guessing) that then feeds the DCDC charger is? Just redundancy for your starter battery?

    ISO Tentmaker

About 5years ago Phoenix Tent and Awning did a nice small custom job for me. I tried them again about 2 years ago, after COVID started, and they said they weren’t doing smaller custom jobs at that point. You might try them now. They may have refilled that position and be back to doing those...

    Folding antenna mast?

Rhino Rack makes a fairly stout one, but they seem to be in short supply. Maybe too small for your purposes? https://www.rhinorack.com/en-us/products/roof-rack-extras/brackets/aerial-brackets/folding-aerial-bracket_43196

Try to think through any future wiring needs before you insulate with VHB! Its worth running some 14 or 16 awg in your ceiling stubbed out to where you can envision your power source to be and where you may want power, especially for ceiling lights and power in the bed. Beats ripping up...

Someone explain why GAIA gets so much love

Another fan of Gaia here. Same reasons cited by other’s One unmentioned feature I really found useful on two recent trips is the historical wildfires layer. Helpful to see the burned or not areas and age of the past fire damage.

Congrats also! VHB here (5259) on both insulation and Coroplast paneling. After 16 months and lots of heat, nothing has budged, sagged, or separated, including hanging from the ceiling. edit: Rats! did it again … its 3M 5952 VHB (not 5259). I always seem to get it backwards!! Where I have...

Congratulations! Great to have another Tundra and ‘Zonie in the fold. My back fritzes out sometimes and my wife‘s 5’1” ish so we use this: Didn’t use the brackets (it hooks securely on the bed’s wood rim) and cut a few inches off the bottom (easy) to match the height. Lightweight and has...

Gladiator Pop-Up Pass Through Camper Build

Not quite the same, but we’ve really liked this for clothes and smaller items. The hanging hooks are removeable and we hang it on small S hooks into their bar tacked daisy chain on the edge that the closet hooks loop through.

    Wildernest Restoration

If the self tappers dont hold, then you might do better with a through hole and some sort of backer to stop pullout. Seem’s like a rivet or maybe a rivnut or plus nut could work if you can fit them? Good luck!

    Wildernest Restoration

3m VHB (5259) + self tapping screws or rivets. Will be really solid if done right.

Makes sense. You can always add something later, if you want/need when you’ve got the placement of the Rivnuts worked out.

I'm killing batteries -- time to go LiFePo4?

+1 on this … Also, don't be reluctant to forget about solar and just run a fused cable back to your LiFePo battery through a DCDC charger. It beats, long, insufficient solar charges that put you at the mercy of the weather. I just camped 5 days without moving/charging or solar and used 69 ahs...

Yeah, summer is for the mountains, not building out campers! How did you, or did you, insulate the frame members in the ceiling? Thats a lot of thermal bridging up there … FWIW, I also did a velcro screen around one hatch and never went back to the other too. So far in 41 days camping...

12v Cooler power draw and recommendations?

To update this: Just ran my ARB 50 for 5 days, 4 nites without charging. Here’s the details: - Battleborn 100 ah battery run down to 36%; shunt said I used 69 ahs - Temps were low 60s at night to high 70s, maybe 80 daytime - Fridge is in an ARB insulated cover, and I’ve also lined the cover...

    Canada to Baja and beyond

Thanks, thats helpful! We use our Tundra and camper similarly in some very rough stuff in the SouthWest, and absolutely agree on the Tundra’s abilities. With the various off-road mods and a fairly complete buildout of the camper we are over our GVWR by a few hundred lbs when fully loaded. Even...

Giant Loop Armadillo Bag utility bladder review

Based on this thread and my rapidly growing hatred of my Rotopax, I bought an updated 5 gal version of the Armadillo bag. After 3 trips with it I am completely impressed with it. (I have zero affiliation with Giant Loop, I’ve just rarely been this impressed with how a product solved my problems...

What @skyfree said. I’ve in Phoenix, and while I don't camp in the heat for the most part, a lot of my build out sure was. I never have thought my roof was a heat problem. It’s insulated with double sided reflective radiant barrier with a 1/4” closed cell foam core put up like a headliner. I...

12v Cooler power draw and recommendations?

Check the specs for any unit you are interested in. Good fridges are real efficient. My ARB 50qt is rated for 7amps and Ive never seen it draw that much. Seems to draw around 4 while running. I’ve never drawn my 100 ah Lifepo battery down to even 80% while running the fridge, vent fan, camper...

That’s a good thing! Yeah, I can’t get over just how much air that MaxFan can move. Really happy with it too. I’m a firm believer that that using it is the best way to know how to modify it without regrets. ’Course there's always that one thing or another I wish I’d done differently …
