Human ?, Part Two (since the original got locked)

The Phoenix paper also reported he admitted to having a campfire and claimed he didn't see the signs prohibiting them — not sure how thats possible. Not saying in anyway the TP thing was OK or not responsible, just that he’s a massive jerk.

OVRLND CAMPERS ONLY : Post your OVRLND Camper build here or a link to your build thread to inspire others!

We spent 12 days in early May up in the SR Swell and the Maze. the crazy UT spring winds were intense at times with two significant dust events. REALLY made me want to check the forecast. We were in several area where there was faint cell signals, but not strong enough to get a forecast. So, I...

Including the ceiling and cabover. I had a little leftover, but it was just about the right amount. Also used two 4x8 sheets of coroplast on top. Edit: forgot to say it was helpful to be able to get this in different widths. Saved a lot of cutting — 4’ for ceiling, 2’ for walls, 6” for the...

Yeah, given that situation, I think 5.29s are the better choice. I may regret the 4.88s in the future if/when I want a less minimalist camper on the same truck. I really doubt it. They wanted a full week for me for gears + lockers, and it actually took a couple extra days. I assume you’d do at...

2021 Ford F250 Tremor Adventure Rig

Since Dragon fly will customize, consider putting some awning track on you siding and having the Dragonfly sew keder strip to the awning edge. It’ll just slide in place when you need it and provides a rain seal. The track only sticks out .5”. I’ve used a DIY version for years. Real easy.

What Toyota truck for Box Camper build?

The 2nd gen Access Cab Tacos are not 6.5’, they’re 6’. Agree with the other comment on payload for a camper. Sold my 09 Taco for that very reason.

Yep, that’s what I did too. One other thing I found helpful is to slightly countersink the top of the existing 8020 hole first. Prevents it from binding the bit at the end.

Nice sketch-up job on your build thread. Looks promising! +1 on your comments in that thread on being prepared to cut your own. FWIW Dewalt makes a nice combo drill/tap. The 1/4-20 works perfectly with the existing 10 series central hole. Just use some oil and don’t use an impact wrench like...

You are right to be skeptical. I’m definitely not trying to convince anyone to regear. In fact I’d say it makes zero sense for just mpg purposes — the breakeven takes a long time. In my case the drivability issue was a big deal. The clincher was the drive last spring from Bluff to Phoenix with...

Yes, it makes the final gear inches greater. In a no load, no wind, no acceleration, no gravity world bigger covers more ground and is more efficient per revolution of the engine. The problem is in actual conditions, it takes more torque to drive those bigger tire diameters. Add our over-weight...

@rruff - the bike tire findings you mention are interesting, and I have no doubt are true — my racing days ended about 12 years ago after a bad crash, so I’m a bit out of date. I was attempting to make a practical generalization for the OP, maybe not the best analogy for overland trucks, but —...

Maybe we need some more elaboration on tire size and weight. . . I was a former bicycle racer where we lived and died on rolling resistance and weight, where you could feel minor differences immediately and much easier than in a vehicle. The best rolling resistance was always the skinniest...

Canyonlands - Needles and Maze Districts

Nice trip report on your blog! We were in the SR Swell and the Maze District at the end of April and first week of May. We’ve experienced spring winds in the area before, but this time was effing crazy. Had to retreat in the camper a couple nights too. It was bad winds in Natural Bridges while...

DIY sight glass mod for a 5 gal jerry can for water level

Well, here’s what I did, not for checking levels, but realized I could do it, so that was an added benefit. https://www.scepter.com/products/military-products/military-accessories/military-water-can-dispenser-spout-10266/ I just cut the scepter spigot hose and extended it to 4feet with food...

    Alternative to ARB fridge slide

DFG Offroad makes great aluminum slides that only weigh 15 lbs IIRC. Very stout. V.good quality. Love mine with ARB 50qt. He also does tilts and slide out counter combos. https://www.dfgoffroad.com/37-for-arb

I worried (needlessly) also when I moved from my 09 Tacoma to a 21 Tundra (146” WB) to handle a lightweight camper. Both were similarly modified with suspension upgrades, 2.5” lift, tires, etc. I’d say the Tundra is lifted a bit more in the rear due to heavier springs with shackles. I crawled...
