How are you guys handling yourselves in strange circumstances off the grid?

Yep, thats me as well — substitute bad back for your hip and wife for GF. Not around the grizz so much lately, but other citters can rarely be a problem. Rabid ones in particular. Just need to get off my butt and do it, I guess.

How are you guys handling yourselves in strange circumstances off the grid?

This is exactly what’s kept me from getting a pistol. I’m not at all anti-gun -grew up with them around and know how and like to shoot. I’ve just never felt threatened while in the backcountry, but know that can happen. I sort of feel like I should be carrying, but just can’t quite get over the...

OVRLND CAMPERS ONLY : Post your OVRLND Camper build here or a link to your build thread to inspire others!

Besides making me want better cell signal to check weather, the other thing the crazy spring winds in UT made me want was a way to hold my barn doors open straight out for some wind blockage. After wracking what’s left of my brain, and searching for the right hold-fast hinge, I couldn’t find...

    Potable Water Can?

Here’s what I did. Believe it or not a full Scepter stays on that riser in the worst off camber, bouncy, awful roads …

    Canada to Baja and beyond

Great thread and trip! Been to Bahia Los Angeles in the late 80s and Loreto for a sea kayak trip in the late 90s and would love to get back down there. Can you comment on how your Tundra has handeled the weight of the CampX? Curious if you have weighed your fully loaded rig and what weight...

    Trailfort Campers

They look very nicely engineered and built. I wonder about that integrated tunnel though. Seems like it really chops down the useful bed length a lot in the interior. If its an option, thats great, but if its integral seems limiting. Losing that space in my Ovrlnd pop-up would have been a deal...

Garmin Tread Overland Edition - any users yet?

Any heavy Gaia Pro users upgraded and find it better? I’m finding the downloading to be easier now that I gave up on sat maps and I like their overland map version a lot. But, Im still considering this as an upgrade. Just not sure its worth it.

Where to mount my kayak? Side mount or HF trailer?

Check these out. https://www.seaeagle.com/FishingKayaks/385fta I just got the non-fishing version. Very impressive build quality. I’m still trying to figure how to cram the folded up version in my MUCH smaller rig, but its’s impressively compact vs a hard shell and lighter too. Can also take a...

Struggling with Solar Setup - 100 Watt Solar + Lead Acid + Lifepo4 Power Pack + Dometic Fridge

I *think* you may be making this too complicated and maybe mixing your battery systems together in a way that isn’t helpful to either, if I’m correctly understanding your description. IMO you’re better off keeping the house battery and camper battery systems separate, except for a 4 to 6awg...

    Receiver Shackle Advice Please

I did buy one of his. Haven't needed it yet, but very impressed with the workmanship - top notch. I also like that its much smaller and more lightweight than other hitch shackle blocks.

Knockoff ARB (HF Air) air compressor

FWIW -- Dirt Lifestyle on YouTube has a great tear down and modification/upgrade 2 part video up for the NAPA twin compressor. You can see the cheap parts that he felt will break or fail (wiring getting hot, un-fixable circuit board, compressor cylinders where one is lubed, the other isn't...

Yes, it's a basket case. No, I was not on drugs when I built it... (2001 Toyota Tundra 2->4WD Build)

Man, I wish I had your wrenching and build skills. Great conversion/restoration/build! Where did you source those big, flat battery terminal blocks? Really like those … or did you fab them? Auminum?

Gladiator Pop-Up Pass Through Camper Build

They definitely are. You’d be surprised at how sturdy they are, though. We left the latch on the top drawer in the camper un-done this last trip and it got tossed on the floor fully loaded. Zero damage or distortion. Just loaded it back up and it slid back in place.

SOLD: IBS-DBS Dual battery kit (New) with the IBS Remote Boost Module

FWIW, these are great dual battery isolaters. I replaced my Painless Performance solenoid system in my previous Tacoma with one and ran it for 7 years. Worked great, and the in cab monitor was handy. takes a LOT less room in the engine bay than the bulky solenoid.

Let’s see your solar/fridge/slide out setup

My 8 yo ARB 50 qt on a DFG alu locking slide out (great slide, only 15 lbs, but rugged). Its mounted to 8020 track (1/2” single side 10 series) direct bolted through the bed floor using 5/16 SS bolts and flange nuts with 3/4“ spacers IIRC. The spacers and the 8020 allow me to slide a 5’x12”...

Electrical System - won't charge my battery bank above 13.0v

Battleborns need to be charged to above 14.2 v regularly to top balance the cells. You should call BB to ask what you need to do, but at very least I think you need to do a good shore charge with the correct LiFePo profile. I’m using the Victron Blue Smart IP 65 with my BB and its great, but...

Full-custom lateral drawers in wagon: what would you do again?

Well, if weight is a top concern, you could consider make the drawers out of Coroplast with some added reinforcement. They don’t need runners if you have a flat bottom in the casing for them to slide on. Extremely tough material, but has some flex. you can load them up if well built. This...

Smart Shunt reading (-) amps after "full charge"

Battleborn’s advice to me was to be sure the battery is charged to at least 14.2 periodically to calibrate the top balance in the BMS. Are you getting there with your setup? I“m no expert on this at all, but I kinda wonder if it’s something like that, or you need to resynch the 100% setting in...
