    Vortex Generators

Can you characterize how much the dirt was reduced? My camper has a terrible dirt collection tendency to coat the back with dirt as its a perfectly square end, and the entry point, of course, is barn doors in the back. I researched the air tabs and concluded like you that mpg improvements...

    Am I being ridiculous?

Went from Tacoma to Tundra. Both similarly built out (suspension lift, etc). Have no complaints and can go anywhere I did before, and I am doing some tough rock-crawly trails. I considered 3/4 ton trucks, partly to haul a heavier camper, but ultimately went lighter Ovrlnd camper to fit the 1/2...

Hybrid or Gas for full-time camper? MPG guesses?

Thanks … Its been awhile coming together, but we’re real happy with the outcome. That’s the tire size I wanted to go with on the stock TRD wheels, but the Icon UCA’s required a different backspace for clearance to the tires. I’m a fan of taller and skinnier, but the shop here that's done a...

Hybrid or Gas for full-time camper? MPG guesses?

I have a fairly heavily modified 21 Tundra double cab with a lightweight (362 pounds) poptop camper (shell) on it. I’m running 34s with 4.88 gears. The GVWR is 7100 pounds. Loaded for a trip with 10 gallons of water food, gas, two occupants totaling 285 pounds, all the build out mods, rear seat...

Big Booty Judy - 2014 DC Tundra Build w OVRLND Camper

Seems like having the Habitat first would be an advantage in knowing what you want. Coming from a tent we basically defaulted to our pre-camper mode with the fridge in the same place and a few Plano boxes, etc for several trips until we could better figure out what we wanted as far as a interior...

Simple question regarding dual battery set-up, diagram: 2016 4Runner

Sure, that’ll work, but its a lot of cost, complication and expense for 17 ahs (.5x35ah aux). You could just replace your starter with a Northstar grp 27 95ah agm for $350 and be done. Or pay $500 for a 50 amp hour Battleborn with 45 usable ah and solar charge it. Not sure Id trust a HF...

Big Booty Judy - 2014 DC Tundra Build w OVRLND Camper

I figured you probably had found it, but wanted to mention it. Thats great you’re gonna be a second generation Ovrlnd owner! Have you figured your configuration out yet?

Big Booty Judy - 2014 DC Tundra Build w OVRLND Camper

Congratulations on making the move. Think you’ll like it. I guess you pretty much had to living in Flag and all :D. If you havent found it yet, check out the Ovrlnd thread … we need another Tundra and Arizonan...

Gladiator Pop-Up Pass Through Camper Build

+1 on this. Not all LiFePo batteries are the same, especially how the BMS is implemented. You can check out Will Prowse’s YouTube channel for very informative comparisons including tear downs. I learned a lot from him when I was making my decision.

How do you handle your high-mounted spare?

Here you go. Much simpler camper, but same principles. We were lucky in having a very stout piece of 8020 15 series extrusions bolted into the frame above the window that serves as our bed slide-out. We can easily lift the 45lbs of full Scepter with the two small double blocks…and they are...

Gladiator Pop-Up Pass Through Camper Build

I’ve had both; IMO they’re different horses for different courses. Dual: Evolved to support heavy winching and high draw non-LED light use. Pros: Can take the under hood heat and is right up there for winch and light connections. Does’t take up camper space. Can jump your dead starter. Maybe...

How do you handle your high-mounted spare?

I made a lifting block and tackle out of these to get full Scepter cans in my side hatch. They are small, lightweight but very well made. They lift just fine. https://www.westmarine.com/harken-16mm-double-block-with-becket-190621.html Get one with the becket for the top pulley and one without...

    2020 Tundra TRD Pro Build

Nice looking rig! So, with the weight you’re carrying and the 37 inch tires what kind of on- vs off-road mileage are you getting? I didn’t notice if you’ve regeared; is that something you’re planning for?

Gladiator Pop-Up Pass Through Camper Build

I cant speak to the Renogy personally, but have heard of some issues. Generally, Victron, Redarc, and National Luna are well regarded and spec’d more often for offroad and more rugged use. Buy once, cry once ? I would have gone with Victron, due to the well integrated bluetooth app, if I hadnt...

Gladiator Pop-Up Pass Through Camper Build

Honestly, this is my first experience w/ a house battery + DCDC charging. I had dual under hood AGMs before w/ an isolater. I went with the NL PowerPack to simplify things and be removable and switchable to my 4Runner. Also, it was the only off the shelf approach for the Battleborn, which was...

Gladiator Pop-Up Pass Through Camper Build

They do. I’d also point out you can just use their DCDC charger without the expense and ports, etc of the the power pack.

Gladiator Pop-Up Pass Through Camper Build

FWIW, I’m running a 100ah Battleborn house battery powering LED lights, ARB 50 qt, device charging, Maxxair fan, and a 12v heating pad for my back. I went with a National Luna power pack to house it as I wanted easily removable. Ive never dropped below 80% and the 25amp DCDC charger in the...
