    Preferred Fuel type

I remember one tank in South America where the Jeep got terrible mileage, which I assume was bad quality. Other than that, I've never noted "varying quality" gas. So far in West Africa the Jeep has been running great and getting excellent mileage. What alternative fuels are you thinking of...

    GoPro Hero4 Silver Edition

If it helps, that's exactly what I did - so I could drive AK-Argentina, and now around Africa :) Keep at it! -Dan

The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

Here's how it felt to drive through the minefield. Definitely my most intense day behind the wheel of a vehicle - much more than The Death Road in Bolivia. -Dan

Thanks Branden, I'm happy to hear you're enjoying it! Let me know of anything specifically you'd like me to film or talk about - I'm always looking for ways to improve! Thanks! -Dan

    Preferred Fuel type

To add an international note to this: I drove Alaska to Argentina and never once got to a station that had diesel and not gas. I'm now in West Africa, same story. People coming up the West Coast of Africa said that in the two Congos and Gabon it was actually very hard to find Diesel, gas is...

    Tuktoyaktuk, January 2016

You could do it in a civic no worries. Yep, it's a good road, actually better in winter than summer because the snow fills in the pot holes. Get the best quality ice tires you can get, studded is best. If it happens to snow a lot, you might get stuck, but that's unlikely, and you can just...

    NAMIB desert - Integral crossing

Awesome! Is there somewhere I can get a GPS track log, waypoints or otherwise details on the exact route you took? A trip like this is absolutely on my list when I eventually get down there. -Dan

    Maxtrax mounting ideas on JKU

I put mine on the AEV Hi-Lift mount that goes on their tire carrier, where a pull-pal would normally go. I have them locked on with a cable lock - a padlock would work well too. I fit two of them with a high-lift and Titan gas tank. I'll bet 4 would fit no worries if you didn't have a hi-lift...

    JKU Tire Opinions?

I disagree with that. I can absolutely feel the difference in power and handling from the weight I added with my KO2s and steel wheels. Power is down because it has to turn more mass, and it handles differently because of the additional unsprung weight. I keep saying if I could change one...

    JKU Tire Opinions?

I struggled with this decision too. In the end I got the BFG KO2 in 34x10.5R17 and I've been extremely impressed with them. They are waaaay quieter than the stock KM2s were, fill the guards nicely and have been excellent in snow/sleet/rain/mud/sand/gravel and tarmac. I have yet to find a fault...

1984 Mercedes 207D Military Van Camper Conversion

For anyone that doesn't know what it is - this is THE van of west Africa. It outnumbers every other van 50 to 1, no exaggeration. If I wanted a van, and I was touring Africa, this would be it! -Dan

The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

Thanks Scott! YouTube is a big new adventure for me, I've never tried to capture my stories on film before. I'm learning a lot really fast, and it's been really enjoyable. I'm looking forward to when I can tell and engaging story, rather than just "I went here, I did this". I think you're...

The Road Chose Me: Driving a Jeep Wrangler 80,000 miles around Africa for 2 years

Thanks for the feedback. As for the large vehicle - obviously I am no expert, so take the below with a grain of salt. Like you said, there are delivery trucks everywhere in the world, so I'm sure you can get through if you stick to the main roads. That being said, do you really want to just...

    Ursa Minor Pop-Top Jeep JK

Hi All, I'm up to about 100 nights now, something like 30 was my longest consecutive stretch (sometimes it's nice to stay in a cheap hotel to get laundry done etc.) I'm absolutely loving it so far, it's by far the biggest alteration I made to the Jeep that changes it from just a vehicle into...
