Hi Scott, glad to hear the trip is going well :ylsmoke:
Allen and Diana are getting ready to head over to Africa, so you won't find them at PB.
Good luck with the rest of the trip!

I enjoyed reading your response Henry, WAAAY COOL!!! Your reasoning seems very sound. Not much weight penalty at all! And that mileage is fantastic. Congratulations and please keep us posted as you get some more trips underway.
Oh yea, I forgot to mention, that I would choose the manual Xterra over the automatic. I'm just a manual kind of guy, but also you will notice in that report that he mentions the manual has a better crawl ratio (sounds like you experienced that on your test drive).
Also forgot to mention, the...
Boy, tough decision.
If it were me (in your shoes, with those choices) I would feel safest getting the Toyota because there is a good bet you will never even need to use that 100K warranty, even at 30K miles. Jeff's right, it's just a baby.
HOWEVER, for the price, a brand new Xterra is hard...
Not to be tacky, but that is wood material for sure. DAMN!
That is a freaking incredible machine Henry. I hope I get to see it in person someday. I am intrigued by the diesel... how did you come to the conclusion that it would work for you, and how did you end up procuring it? (or...
I'm going to go out on a limb here... but, I have seen lots of "bobbed" Tacoma beds. Why not an "extended" bed? You would need to know someone good at welding to make it an affordable project, but I think it is do-able. You could incorporate a custom rear bumper at the same time and make the...
I still want one :)
The next issue of 4WD Toyota Owner will have some extensive pics and material on the FJ Cruiser - over 10 pages, with 4 driver's reports and 23 photos.

You have a tough bill to fill. I don't think you will quite get all of what you are looking for in one perfect vehicle:
Carry multiple passengers, dogs
Carry bikes and gear (bikes inside vehicle)
short-mid wheelbase
Good fuel economy (unless you consider less than 20 mpg good?)My guess is that...
Garmin FINALLY came out with a handheld GPSR series that uses removeable memory cards (not proprietary by the looks of it). It is actually their existing lineup of handhelds, made into an "X" series (for "xtreme"). The main difference is that they use removeable memory cards AND the 60 and 76...
Sounds GOOD to me!! You're not the only one who had trouble though. Since busting a couple of my new Yakima towers at the Nevada Trophy, I put the old ones (10 yrs + maybe?) back on for the Baja trip. Bad idea. My new suspension is MUCH faster than the old roofrack towers :p and one of them...
:clapsmile Nice pics. Glad to hear you are still having great weather, and no troubles. Any luck finding a transfer pump for Robb? Did you make it out to Ballandra to camp? Have you slain any sizeable fishies yet?
