Rambo - GMC Ambo Conversion (Roof Raise)

Ok, I’m getting ready to start the 1” layer of insulation on the inside. I want to cover it with a thin wood covering that would also be strong enough for brad nailing pine board etc. WhAts my best bet? I want to keep it pretty thin if I can....I was thinking 1/4” plywood?

So if I understand correctly you would do two circuit breakers. One at 70A for the alternator to the Renogy so I can isolate. and then a separate circuit breaker for the bus bar that's lets say 200A. The reason I had such a high rated cb on the alt right now is because the wire coming from the...

Rambo - GMC Ambo Conversion (Roof Raise)

there is a DC-DC/MPPT charger that takes the solar and alternator power and makes it play nice to charge the house battery. The Alternator bus is just for things that I don’t want on the house battery like my light bars, AC, coolant heater, air compressor etc. The DCDCcharger will take 50A from...

Rambo - GMC Ambo Conversion (Roof Raise)

Well I have to go to work for the next 4 days so I won’t get too much done. I’m trying to tie up all the Exterior intrusions before the weather hits. I found my rivnut pulled but it turns out it’s broken. For better or for worse I decided just to drill and tap the roof skin which is 1/8”. I know...

Rambo - GMC Ambo Conversion (Roof Raise)

Let me know if this is better. Everything will be 2AWG except the wire from the alternator and the wire from the battery to the Inverter which will be heavier. 2/00 or something for the amps. There is a house bus and an alternator driven bus so that I don’t kill my house batteries with...

Rambo - GMC Ambo Conversion (Roof Raise)

I feel like I’ve been telling my wife we are going to start the interior soon for weeks. I’m trying to get everything done that requires me to poke holes or fill holes on the exterior. I put 4 lights on the back of the ambulance. Two to shine down the road and two at 45 deg angles to flood the...

I cut the heat sink off a light for a test. Even with the heat sink removed the aluminum housing was enough to keep it cool to the touch. LEDs can get up to about 60C all the time before it starts affecting performance if I remember correctly. If you can put your light against the metal body of...

What depth did/are you making the the drawer? I am thinking somewhere around 8" but I don't want it to be too shallow...

Rambo - GMC Ambo Conversion (Roof Raise)

A few days ago I go the cracked corners welded. That with the raised roof section needed body work so that’s what we got on today. Still need another day to finish it off. I also added the lights in the rear and the lights on the side.

I got this for $110 CDN at Uncle Weiners. It seems pretty OK so far. But for that price I figured it would be good to add while I'm doing the electrical. They say it's 800W but I'm sure that's an "equivalent watt" rating which I find quite dumb. I don't even know how many amps this thing pulls...

Which side of my DC-DC should I put my shore power?

I have 370A of alternator and a 400W solar array that is being balanced by a Renogy DC-DC MPPT charge controller. The controller has a 50A max. I have a 100A AC to DC converter for shore power that has Li charge profiles [Bulk (14.7V) Absorption (13.8V) and Float (13.2V)]. I can also change the...

Rambo - GMC Ambo Conversion (Roof Raise)

Not too much to report. I got the aluminum bonded and riveted in place. My welder was having a hell of a Time welding the aluminum so I need to come up with a new plan for the corners and seams. He was able to fix the cracking corners but we had to grind out a bunch of bondo so I have to do some...

What sealant are you using for the exterior David? I was just cruising the Ambuland page. I'm think of doing the under dinette drawer like you did. Would you do it again? Any lessons learned?

Rambo - GMC Ambo Conversion (Roof Raise)

The sheet aluminum is clecoed in place. There is a pretty wide gap at the top of the corners that I might have to bridge some how. Maybe I’ll try to get drip edge to wrap around it. Tomorrow is urethane adhesive day. Hopefully it goes smoothly. I’m debating doing everything at once or just doing...

Rambo - GMC Ambo Conversion (Roof Raise)

Yeah I’ve been spending too much money but when I realized the AGMs were dead and how much they would cost to replace them, I decided to bite the bullet when I was quoted the price. $484 for the AGMs each vs $750. Canadian prices. I’ll let you know how it goes. I might need to look into a DC-DC...

Rambo - GMC Ambo Conversion (Roof Raise)

I got everything to fill the gap in pace today. Hopefully I can get it bonded and riveted tomorrow. Other things Ive been doing is installing the kitchen window, pulling old wire out, getting parts together etc. I picked up lithium batteries today. I couldn’t find battleborn in Canada so...

Rambo - GMC Ambo Conversion (Roof Raise)

Well I didn't get many pictures today. I got the floor covered in 1" foam where it was flat and then put an inch or so of roxul every where that was curved. I know it won't do much but I figured it was worth it. I got the seat back in and I realized I can get my doghouse back in position. I...

Rambo - GMC Ambo Conversion (Roof Raise)

Is this a bad idea? I’m going to go 1” rigid everywhere I can and then do thin layers or roxul and silver bubble wrap where the feet go. I have plenty of pedal clearance. And obviously I’ll have to dig out where the chairs go.
