Is there a reason NOT to use stainless steel braided loom?

I posted about this in an old resurrected thread and got some good advice on how to managed the frayed ends You can see my issues here: My big concern is will the SS braid rub through other wires/looms that it will be nestled with or attached to? Or will the electrical properties create some...

    Wire protection ideas

Haha… I was thinking about 1/2” poly dripline tubing. May still use it in some less open areas. Two 6AWG wires fit just enough to push through, though I have seen the @#*% rats or rabbits eat through that in my yard, hence my infatuation with the stainless mesh! Thanks again…

    Wire protection ideas

I’m resurrecting this thread to ask about stainless steel loom. I am running a pair of six AWG cables from my starter battery to the bed of my Tundra along the frame to power a DC DC charger for my lithium battery. We have rodent problems all around my house, and I have to park the Tundra...

    2014 Sierra 1500 OVRLND camper

Thanks Wrathchild! How annoyingly ”bulgy” in the bed rug do you think a naked bed mounted strip of 3/4” 8020 would be under the Bedrug? Mounted in the “troughs” of the bed, of course. Appreciate the the heads up on the awning. Fortunately, we’re planning on an extra 2 inches for the...

    2014 Sierra 1500 OVRLND camper

Been following your build as we have a Ovrlnd in the queue with Jay about to start. Nice job! Love the 23zero so much we ordered one based on your build. How did you attach your 8020, fridge slide, and other bed tiedown anchors with the Bedrug? We have one on order, and I’m puzzling about...

A quick Aerodynamics question and Weight study of my DIY camper

http://www.airtab.com/ https://spinoff.nasa.gov/Spinoff2008/t_3.html I’m pretty likely to use these on the back of my square Ovrlnd Camper due soon. As must for dust as anything, but as a former recumbent bicycle racer, and having tested, built and modified multiple fairings and aero devices...

(SOLD) 2012 Ram Power Wagon Laramie w/ FWC Hawk Flatbed,

Bump for a great Rig and seller. I’m the sale that fell through. Kenny is a great guy and a straight shooter. We met part way to inspect and test drive the rig with the likely intention of driving it back to Phoenix. The camper is amazing and the truck is very well put together and maintained...

    Let's talk about Solar Blankets

I have this: https://smile.amazon.com/ECOWHO-HY-3x35W18V2-Solar-Charge-Controller/dp/B01M8LCDN2/ref=sr_1_4?crid=WTGG0TBGRFMC&dchild=1&keywords=acopower+solar+panel&qid=1605566976&sprefix=acopower%2Caps%2C227&sr=8-4 Works great! Had it two years. I don’t love that it’s a PWM controller or that...

About to buy a flatbed FWC Hawk/Norweld rig -- need advice on off-road capability? Concerned with height and rollover due to COG

Thanks all for the feedback — very useful, and helps allay my concerns. I‘m a pretty cautious driver, and my wife is a great spotter, so theres that. I also, won’t be putting weight up high, other than the two rigid solar panels already mounted, and may move some stuff around to get weight lower...

About to buy a flatbed FWC Hawk/Norweld rig -- need advice on off-road capability? Concerned with height and rollover due to COG

Thanks Kmacafee. We like all those places too. Saw in your profile you had a Tacoma+FWC — how was was the transition to a bigger rig off-road? Did you find where you could go more or less limiting than you you had anticipated?

About to buy a flatbed FWC Hawk/Norweld rig -- need advice on off-road capability? Concerned with height and rollover due to COG

I agree! Thanks, the rest of your post is the kinda thing I'm looking for. I’ll search around for that critical rollover angle info. I've never had a thing on my truck higher than my hard tonneau cover, except 2 MaxTracs, so just trying to gauge what I'm in for. Big change for me.

    Four Wheel Camper 300' Rollover

The rollover truck is a newer, AEV Prospector with all the bells and whistles it sounds like. Front and rear winches, 40s, Weboost, etc. The one for sale is 5 to 6 years older 2012 Power Wagon Laramie pretty much stock outside the the tray and camper, but very nice. Not trying to justify the...

    Four Wheel Camper 300' Rollover

Coincidentally I just started a thread on the vertical COG of FWCs on a Norweld tray and rollover risk. I'm looking to buy a used rig, not as built as this guy's. Sorry for his experience, and glad he's OK. Does't sound like his issue was being too tall and unstable but I'm wondering if...

About to buy a flatbed FWC Hawk/Norweld rig -- need advice on off-road capability? Concerned with height and rollover due to COG

Thanks AbleGuy - I appreciate it. I went back and edited as I didn't make it clear enough in my original question it's the vertical COG and the side to side "tippy" factor I'm concerned with. The camper and flatbed are very well situated fore and aft. Much more rollover concerned than loss of...

About to buy a flatbed FWC Hawk/Norweld rig -- need advice on off-road capability? Concerned with height and rollover due to COG

At 68 and 6'3" with some manageable back/neck issues, my perfectly built '09 Tacoma for tent camping and pretty serious off-road is just too small/uncomfortable. And, we want out of the dust, wind, rain, and cold sometimes (do a lot of shoulder season outings, usually) for longer trips, and...

Are those the Randy Ellis Design rails? Thanks again for the advice you provided a few weeks ago on the Power Wagon and FWC combo. We’re pretty close to a deal, so I may be joining the club in a week or so … Sorry about your flood. Not what one expects in Phoenix …

Maybe not! Liked this so much i looked at the site, which says “back spring 2021” https://barebonesliving.com/products/shovel?_pos=4&_sid=73566139f&_ss=r Ive been using a cheap Home Depot D handle shorty and/my Dads old Korean war entrenching tool, which has a steel handle, depending on the...
