    Microwave for truck camper

I have a 1000w little retro microwave that is indispensable for warming a burrito quickly when cooking is impractical or unappealing. It has a turntable, which hasn’t presented any issues so far.

Do you actually use or need a pass thru window from camper to pickup?

I have one, but I’ve never used it. That’s not to say it won’t happen, but it’s never been a crucial component of a happy camping trip. The only use I can foresee for the pass-thru at this point is allowing the use of the phone booster receive antenna in both the camper and the cab.

    72 IH + ‘85 Alaskan = Questionable Judgment...

Thanks guys— a lot going on lately, including a relocation from the expensive chaos that is the Colorado Front Range to a small, quiet Wyoming town. Going to make a barndominium out of this: Already got a new, taller overhead door: Gonna need that indoor workspace, as it turns out…

Thank you! I really should catch up on this thread— quite a bit has happened in the last year. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    TorkLift GlowStep System

I looked at those for mine, but went with one of those 3-rung little stepladders. Cheaper, and easy camper entry ceased to be a priority after I broke up with my boozebag girlfriend. Glad to see they work well in case my good judgement fails me again.

Help with layout... is this possible?

Biggest you can get. 50' is a long run of wire.

    Water Tank Vent PSA

Mine's not nearly so snazzy: it's just a 3/8 plastic hose exiting the front of the camper.

    Water Tank Vent PSA

I filled the water tank on my Alaskan yesterday so I could go scale it out for some axle weights. Unbeknownst to me, some critter had built a nest or cocoon or the like in the vent/overflow hose since last summer, and packed it completely off. Consequently, the only way I realized the tank...

    Camper and Truck Photos

Thanks Andrew-- next up is a Sniper 2300 FI install. You've got my ongoing respect and admiration camping in that deep-freeze. It reminds me of a tune I remember from the '80's: "If the phone don't ring, you know it's me". If the spot next to you is empty, you know it's me.

Are pop-up campers more popular than hard-side purely due to how they look when mounted on a truck?

Honestly, I never gave esthetics much thought as they relate to the popup-vs-full-height debate; I just wanted a camper low enough to snag on as few overhanging branches as possible. Maybe I don't actually have a place at the table here, since I do enjoy a full-height door.

Does Anyone Actually Use Their House Water for Drinking?

When I was a kid, we'd fill buckets from the river near the cabin we went to every summer west of Walden, Co, fill the old Igloo galvanized water cooler and drink that water. When we were out fishing that river, we'd just bend down and get a drink whenever we were thirsty (gotta keep those deer...

I think I may have camped at that site in the bottom pic in the late '80's.

I dream of taking my truck into the Maze. I don't have the nerve or any memory of what the Flint Trail is like, so it'll probably never happen.

    72 IH + ‘85 Alaskan = Questionable Judgment...

Hagerman Pass has occupied a hallowed spot in the Colorado backcountry pass pantheon ever since I first thumbed through a book on the Colorado Midland Railroad my grandma had when I was a kid. Looking at it (and I looked at that book pretty much every time we visited— I just had to wash my...

Leadville, 1:30-ish PM: Get some gas, head for the pass. Hagerman, that is.

    72 IH + ‘85 Alaskan = Questionable Judgment...

Next morning, after a fuel tank repair, a wholesome gas-station breakfast, and reconciling myself with a carb that wouldn’t idle, it was Weston Pass to Leadville: Never even locked the hubs, just granny all the way over. Nothing like stump-puller axle gearing to alleviate drama.

    72 IH + ‘85 Alaskan = Questionable Judgment...

Next, the Labor Day trip to the Walden Happy Place, or so I thought. I plotted out an indirect route that would include as many back roads as I could reasonably incorporate in the 3 days I allotted to get there, which meant heading southwest to get to a destination to the northwest of...

Does Anyone Actually Use Their House Water for Drinking?

Sure, whatever you say. How can you be sure I even own a house, living on the Front Range of Colorado as I do? Good grief.

Does Anyone Actually Use Their House Water for Drinking?

We used to every summer, right out of the Roaring Fork River. Grab the old galvanized buckets, walk down to the river at one particular deep spot, and Grandpa would carefully dip the buckets full as he could because he was strong enough to. Then we’d each carry a bucket back to the cabin, being...
