    Project "Autonomous" F-350

BTW, It's so nice to have sources for information about the vehicles we drive, and build. I have learned so much from this site, and I am fortunate to know great people throughout the automotive world. The friend who found my 205 transfer case for me is none other than Todd Zuercher. He is an...

    Project "Autonomous" F-350

My 205 transfer case arrived last week. It was covered in decades old baked on grease and dirt that had a consistency of wax. I've spent hours scraping, brushing, and degreasing just to get it this clean. I already put in the same effort on the Dana 24. I guess it helped to preserve them. The...

    Project "Autonomous" F-350

If the bolts just loosen, typically the bolt holes will get elongated. Two of them were fine, the third one was distorted. Two bolts went first, the last one eventually let go on the trail.

    Project "Autonomous" F-350

If only there was a monitor that would tell you when critical bolts get loose. I was out prerunning photo locations at the Mint 400 when the bolts sheared on my rear caliper mount. When I hit the brakes again the caliper spun around and ripped the brake line out of the banjo fitting. I had to...

    Reliability of 4wd conversions

The truck doesn't know whats under it. You can mount anything you want as long as you have a competent fabricator designing and installing the mounts. I have owned several vehicles with entirely revised suspensions that had zero issues. You just need to watch the same parameters that the factory...

    Welding camper to F-250 questions

I used to have a fiberglass shell on my 92 obs. I switched to a metal shell that is much more rigid. I bolted the shell to the bed and put a bead of silicone around the inside and out to seal it from dust and rain. The bed flexes so much more than the shell that it broke that bead of silicone...

    Project "Autonomous" F-350

Wouldn't you know it. A friend found a divorced 205 for me. The Dana 24 is supposed to show up on Monday. I will soon be in the used parts biz. The difference between the two cases is that the 205 can be twin sticked, and more parts are available.

Talk Me Out of an OBS as a budget overlanding rig!

Not sure where you are from, but in the southwest 4x4 vans are 10x harder to find than obs trucks.

The optimal would be a divorced 205, but I could not find one locally. I found several for a good price, but 850 bucks to ship.

You must then understand that "crude" to some, is wonderful for others. I like simple. When I need to know the outside temperature, I roll down the winda.
