Trailer Building Indepent Arm Building - Official Guide

You guys are talking about this type of suspension, right? Like on old desert trucks.

    Softshell suggestions?

Yeah, that's exactly the one I have. Good stuff, made by good guys. Ive been wanting to pick up one of their Garage Jackets next time I am up in SF.

    Becoming Involved?

Check with your local Sherriff's dept. When I was in Eugene I participated in the lane County Volunteer SAR program, which is set up as an Explorer Group through Boy Scouts. They still had adult volunteers and a few paid Sherriff's dept employees to run the program. Down here in Ventura there...

    Softshell suggestions?

I'm a huge fan of a company out of San Francisco called TAD Gear. I have the older version of their Stealth Hoodie, and its by far the best softshell I've owned. Very wind proof, its kept me comfortable with appropriate layering from a range of ~40 degrees to room temperatures.

    budget performance cars

Hey, they've got my car on the list:) I currently drive a 2003 WRX Wagon. Slightly modified exhaust, went from 3 cats down to just 1 after the turbo, which decreased turbo lag significantly. that and some good quality Sway Bars have made it a lot more fun than stock, without sacrificing the...

New Flip Pac on my 2008 Tacoma

Exactly. If you wanted to get really ambitious you could have it preloaded by a torsion spring and open using the same handle as the Flip-Pac :)

New Flip Pac on my 2008 Tacoma

What if you made a rack that mounts to the lower half of the Flip-Pac, and can pivot up vertically? When you want to flip up the tent, you'd unlatch the rack from one side, pivot it up on its side, and flip up the tent as normal. The kayak would end up next to the tent.

Trailer Building Indepent Arm Building - Official Guide

I think you're thinking the same thing I am. Not to move the airbag down toward the axle, but outward toward th frame rail. If you look at the forces acting on the arm, you have the axle pushing upward at the very end, the air bag pushing down on the opposite side, and the reaction forces of...

Official "My name is..." "And I ride..."

I just got back into Mountain Biking last year, after a few year's hiatus. This is my current ride: 2008 Specialized Pitch Comp Fox 36 Talas Hayes Striker Disc Brakes - 8" front, 7" rear Old XT drivetrain

Best Hydraulic Disk Brakes for MTB - Recommendations?

Good point there. I've always felt with my Hayes brakes, you use finger pressure on the lever to control brake modulation. With Avid and Shimano its more lever position. I personally like my levers to be rock hard, with very little movement, but that's just a personal preference thing.

What is best tent for 30 people in snow and rain?

This is what we did, we had a supply of 4 person dome tents from REI that held up well to careless boy scout abuse:) We always camped in our patrols of 8-16 people, and had our own cook boxes and cooked our own dinners. There was usually a central 'adult' campground with a more established cook...

Trailer Building Indepent Arm Building - Official Guide

OK, that makes sense, got it. The way the swing arm is loaded is putting a twisting force on the bushings, which is why you're seeing camber changes due to bushing deflection. Ideally you'd have the forces balanced so that both bushings see the same force, deflect equally, and you don't have...

Trailer Building Indepent Arm Building - Official Guide

Forgive my ignorance, but why is it bad to have some compliance in the pivots of your swingarms? If you wanted it to be super stiff and no compliance, you can use some sort of bearings (roller?), but you'd better have really great tolerances in your build, as any misalignment will make...

    Tundra Frame Rust?

It would be interesting to find out what the paint/coating used on Land Cruiser or Toyota Truck frames was, and whether a change was made when the Tacoma first came out.

Best Hydraulic Disk Brakes for MTB - Recommendations?

I've had great experience with hayes brakes, both the older HFX9 and my current Hayes Stroker's. Pads seem to last me about 1-2 years, and I ride twice a week minimum. I love the feel and adjustability of the Avid Juicy's, and if I were to buy a new set right now that's what I'd go with. Hope...

Trailer Building Indepent Arm Building - Official Guide

My concern with Heim joints would be maintenance, you might end up having to replace them every few years, and joints that big arent cheap. Do you know what Durometer those bushings are? I have used Energy Suspension bushings in a few places on the suspension on my my WRX, and have been...

I like it a lot. I am very curious is the tacoma will get a mid-cycle facelift with some of the styling cues, and maybe the manual transfer case shifter!

    All new 2010 4runner revealed...

I've noticed Toyota drastically controls what package combinations are available in certain areas of the country. Try putting in a different zip code and see what you get. In SoCal they force you to bundle all sorts of crap to get the Off Road packages on the Tacoma, they all end up being over $32k
