    72 IH + ‘85 Alaskan = Questionable Judgment...

After quite a bit of time spent on Craigslist, I noticed quite a few popup campers priced from $500 to $1500— “projects”, to be charitable. There was almost nothing to be had from there up to the high four-digits, where the selection became good once again. I was becoming discouraged until I...

    72 IH + ‘85 Alaskan = Questionable Judgment...

My primary concern with this truck was whether the 304 would move it along at (secondary) highway speeds. I wasn’t looking for another 50-mph vehicle (see “M725” above). Test drive day, June ‘18: After an out-&-back down the service road to the Laramie exit, any doubts were dispelled: that...

    72 IH + ‘85 Alaskan = Questionable Judgment...

My buddy Harry & I hatched this plan two years ago over a 12-pack of Michelob. We were sitting in his Wyoming shop trying to come up with a new project, after he’d finished this one: And we’d finished this one: It was pretty simple build, really: bed and engine from one truck onto the...

    Alaskan Dinette Bed Frustration

I talked to Brian about this and some other issues, and he said those cushions aren't stock. Another item added to the punch list. Super helpful guy, even with those who aren't technically his customers. Yeah, I just barely remember Grandma & Grandpa's setting up the same way. That's why...

    Me too, buddy.

    Alaskan Dinette Bed Frustration

I'll get some pix later of that locator block situation on the base cushions. Been a long week.

    Alaskan Dinette Bed Frustration

Thanks! The camper is only on that truck for a place to put it (no space for two footprints); it's way too slow & underpowered to actually go anywhere. When The Plague clears, I'll be setting it on a '72 IH 1-ton 4x4.

    Alaskan Dinette Bed Frustration

I tried this, but two factors queered it: 1. It required repositioning a base cushion, which didn't work because of the wood blocks previously discussed. 2. It still left a 4-5" gap in the bed, which didn't seem right.

    Alaskan Dinette Bed Frustration

That occurred to me, but I'm not convinced simply because they fit very well when used in their seating positions. Maybe Brian can provide me with stock cushion dimensions.

    Alaskan Dinette Bed Frustration

I have, but it still leaves that gap you see in the middle because those base cushions are located in place by the wood blocks attached to their backs. I've tried moving them to open up that gap (in hopes of fitting that last cushion in), and they wobble really annoyingly if they're pushed...

    Alaskan Dinette Bed Frustration

It's hard to visualize standing in front of it. I'm not sure what "E" means, but I think I should mention that really the only assumption I've made concerning cushion orientation is that they should run perpendicular across those support battens like decking runs over joists. I think that's...

    Alaskan Dinette Bed Frustration

Thank you for the suggestion, but I'm not computer literate enough to post up a pic over there using their arcane, nonsensical posting procedure, and nowhere near patient enough to put up with being ridiculed for my lack of computer literacy like has happened in the past. I'll sleep under the...

    Alaskan Dinette Bed Frustration

Thank you for the reply. There is a 10"+- difference between that gap and the width of the remaining cushion, and the cushions have a hardboard backing. I simply can't imagine how that last one could be wedged into that space. It's like a truck mounted, pop-up parlor game. Thank you for the...

    Alaskan Dinette Bed Frustration

Can someone enlighten me on how to assemble the dinette cushions in my ‘85 CO into a usable bed? I’m apparently not bright enough to do so. Here’s the sitch: Those base cushions have small wood blocks screwed to the bottom to hold them in place. They don’t work well anywhere but the...

Moto, you’re doing the same things I’m planning to do with a similar buildout— I love it! I was in the process of setting this: On this: when The Plague hit. One more month, and we would have had it drivable after almost two years of work. I’ve gotten some good ideas from this thread—...

Higher CG Concerns With Flat Beds?!

CG is something that really didn’t occur to me until reading this thread. I’ll be setting this camper: On this truck: On top of this “subframe”: Hopefully, being a 1-ton, it won’t be as tippy as that Toyota. Still, I think I’ll keep the sidehilling to a minimum. Sent from my iPad...

Lowering my Alaskan 8' CO is a PITA...

Thanks. “Creative” meant hanging off the back of the top while lowering it, which isn’t very enjoyable during or after when you’re fat & old. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Lowering my Alaskan 8' CO is a PITA...

Cool, thank you— I’ll give that a try. I’ve shied away from opening that valve much just because the top starts to bind up so badly. I have the complete manual for this camper (as well as documentation for every appliance in it), and it mentions absolutely nothing about the raising/lowering...

Lowering my Alaskan 8' CO is a PITA...

Thank you for the reply. I think I'll call Alaskan & see what they have to say; I've reached the point of spending fatigue on my IH 1310/Alaskan project, and the prospect of buying a $500 hydraulic part does not entice.
