(Another) Forest Living Suburban Build Thread

Can't tell if any of the burb people are still on here? Anyway- rear is completely painted and done. Just waiting on an ARB air locker and some new brake pads. I'll post pictures when it's all on the ground again. Also- I must say so far this "steel-it" paint is the cats pajamas. We'll see if...

Rear Axle is in and done. Just need to pull the shiny parts back out so I can paint. Math worked out well- just need to adjust ride height by .5 inches up Measurements show around 13 inches of travel (5-ish up and 7-ish down) with bumpstops and limit straps. This ratio should be perfect for...

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

As Drei mentioned- I did a write up where he linked. I think it's pretty clear, but let me know if you have any ?'s. I dont go on here much anymore, but if you post in my thread i'll get an email. Short answer- with a 6 inch diff drop lift- 2500 diff fits in with very minimal fab work...

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

Ya, sorry that's what I was trying to say. Fab work, just takes time and it takes experience (either doing it by hand or with computer). If you want to jump in, then go for it. That's how you learn, and I'm all for it. However, it's going to take time, a lot of it, especially because there's...

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

Hey Drei, Don't think going to a TTB would be a good idea. I'm not sure what your fab work is like, but that is a whole can of worms, and it's not a "few week" project unless you are full time on it and have a cnc/plasma table. Plus the stamped TTB setup is not really any stronger than a GM IFS...

    04 2500 suburban build

A f150 rear tank from 1996 fits perfectly between the rear frame above/where the spare tire is . I have pictures and details in my thread. https://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/another-forest-living-suburban-build-thread.153444/page-16 The tire would be low for my tastes but it can be...

    2006 Suburban Build

They aren't. They are cheap Monroe load adjusting shocks from Pep Boys. I was playing around with them to see if it made a difference when towing my tongue heavy trailer. They are trash and blew the seals on the first trip and I returned them. What isn't trash is firestone- in coil airbags...

    2006 Suburban Build

For the BCD and Rough Country- I don't think the BCD is worth x2 the price in a million years. Of course the BCD kits I've seen have a slightly nicer finish, etc. I do like that the BCD boxes the front box more(easy fix to the RC kit) and is probably stronger all around, but Idk the RC is...

    2006 Suburban Build

Here are some crappy pictures of the sway bar disconnects, you get the idea. (Ignore the non-threaded nut on the rear was test fitting and needed a longer bolt and another washer)

    2006 Suburban Build

Also on sway bars- I drove it on the street without any swaybars- It didn't feel too bad, but I for sure would not want to drive 2k miles on road like we sometimes do. I fabbed up some quick disconnect's myself. Basically just thick wall tubing, welded RH and LH nuts , quality heim RH and LH...

    2006 Suburban Build

Agreed- 33's, keys and a 14 bolt (a 10 bolt g80 WILL fail eventually )is a great cost effective way to get you 99% of the places you want. With keys and crank just make sure you keep the CV angles reasonable and carry an extra CV or stub axle. Other than that just explore!!!! If modding is also...

    2006 Suburban Build

Also for skid plates- any of the lift kits have decent protection. You will need real rock sliders and either buy or make a slide plate for the transfer case. Ive had on my list for so long to make something for the gas tank but never came up with anything. My #1 thought for my line is...

    2006 Suburban Build

Hey! Sounds like you've got a good plan. I think rarya posted a thread somewhere that collated all the gmt-800 rigs somewhere. I'd start there- almost all of the point you made have been plus and minusesd out here (sounds like maybe you've read those too) A few things 4.10s are worth it for...

    2016 Chevy Silverado LTZ Z71

I like my cognitos a lot on my GMT800. Yes- at least on the GMT800- the balljoint is off the shelf and bolt in. Nice to be able to replace it in the field if every necessary. I also highly recommend airbags. I used to have sumo inserts but found that on the larger lifted springs- it started...

    Suburban/Tahoe(and GMC) pic/build thread

Haven't been back here in awhile- but great to see all the Tahoe/Burb people. I will say that 02TahoeMD is the OG and was the inspiration for many of our rigs. Here' Burb One somewhat recently.

    Los Angeles -Class Attack Sub(urban), Build / Collected Werks topic - '02 k1500 Z71

O ya the lower front ball joints are a PAIN. I broke so many ball joint tools and a Harbor Freight Press 40T press getting them out. I have told myself, next time I will just be replacing the whole control arm (they've got 230k+ miles on them) or at least bring the whole arm to a shop and throw...

    Los Angeles -Class Attack Sub(urban), Build / Collected Werks topic - '02 k1500 Z71

DAMN, that's expensive. Honestly, what are you going over that needs a deflector there? I go through some pretty crazy ********, off trail and on, and never once had a boot rip, or anything else there. I understand it happens, but now with the miles and miles off road and it never close to...

Tire review for the big boys, falken at3w on f250

I have been on the last two generations of Falken Wilpdeaks- AT3 and before AT2- on my pretty heavy Suburban (two buddies with identical Suburbans are also on Falken AT3's). All are 35's Load Range E We all have 10,000-15,000 miles on them each and they don't look a day old. They grip awesome...
