Anyone who knows about LandCruisers knows they want a 70 series... in part because it has a solid front axle.
The 4Runner has been the little brother to the LandCruser for a long, long time.

How's the satellite coverage over Antarctica?
Even up here at only ~60 degrees North our Spots, Sat phones and even Satellite TV can be painful.
Of course, all the dishes are pointed below the horizon!
-Dan
New regulations won't let them leave it alone.
My hope is they shed a little weight, drop in a diesel, and leave everything else alone for one more cycle.
-Dan
I think you might be exaggerating a little here.
There are over 500,000 JKs getting around - every single one with a solid front and rear axle. That's just JKs.
I think junkyards will be well stocked for our lifetimes.

Right around -55C is when metal will start to fatigue.
Up here in the Yukon most mines have learned the hard way and shutdown operations when it's -50C or colder.
If they don't, they be using their big cats right through -50, -55, -60 and the steel will form tiny fractures.
Some amount of time...
If you check each individual country in http://wikioverland.org I've linked to as many lists for each country as I could find.
Other people have been adding more too.

Not sure if you saw the whole thread (it's worth it), the guy put a roll cage from a 4Runner into the XJ (fit perfectly) and he's had no problems at all.
Full flexed, all the doors opened and closed without a problem.
-Dan
Wow, it's almost like the Westie roof was made to fit.
IMO That guy did a bit of a rough job, but I bet if you took your time you could make it beautiful for the XJ.
-Dan
Here's a guy doing exactly that on a Defender 110.

I'm sure you could borrow some of his ideas.
Should be an awesome project. I'll watch with interest.
-Dan
That's kinda cool.
Seems like there is tons of room back there for a gas tank or water tank or something. I wonder what they do to the rear sway bar?
-Dan
That's awesome, thanks.
So smooth and quiet - all the stock guages work. It's the perfect swap.
Are you still running the methanol injection?
What have your MPGs settled down to?
Thanks again for keeping all of us dreaming of a diesel swap well stocked for ideas :)
-Dan
Awesome trip and photos. I can't wait to get back to the home country one day.
What self-inflating mattress are you using?
Does it inflate pretty easily by itself?
Thanks,

31" x 10.5 Dunlop Radial Rovers (they were cheap...) on a lightly loaded Jeep TJ.
They were almost down to the wear markers after 77,000 km (48,000 miles) on the PanAm highway.
I'd say 50/50 sealed/gravel.
5 tire rotation every 10k KMs (6k miles)
-Dan
Hey Scott,
Do you have any details on that? I didn't know there were roads in along the Peel yet.
The Dempster is more or less my backyard these days, I'll be up that way on the weekend Moose hunting :)
