There are already a couple of other 4x4 Sprinter threads around ExPo, but it seems best to create a new thread for the factory Mercedes version which, after a decade of false starts, appears to actually be coming to North America next year.
The details are in this press announcement...
Figuring that you're all really good at advanced planning, it's time to pass on the details of this year's Northwest SprinterFest, the annual low key West Coast get-together of Sprinter trucks, owners and interested onlookers. This NW SprinterFest, the ninth, will be held on Saturday, April 12th...
As you can read about toward the end of this thread,
http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/113102-INSTANT-OVERLANDER-Mikey-s-Transitory-Sprinter-Camper,
I've once again decided something needs to be more complicated and expensive. This time the victim is the 144" wheelbase, '03...
We've got a good thread, started in April, for the cheap ($40 or lower) Baofeng 5V-UV radios:
http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/106854,
that has much useful information.
But it appears that time, and Chinese electronics, marches on, so you can now instead have the newer Baofeng...
I'm reluctant to even post this information, but consider it my duty to the optimistic amongst you . . .
There is recent information that Daimler-Benz will make an all-wheel driven Sprinter available in the U.S. and Canada in a little over a year. What I know about it is from this thread on the...
FWIW: I’m gonna post up the whole build at one time and let people read through it as suits their preferences. No sense in waiting, I don’t think, ‘cuz there ain’t nothing more gonna happen. :sombrero:

As ExPo’s most aged veterans know, in bygone days I designed and had built Mog...
I just bought a Sprinter cargo van to replace my long-time Sprinter overlander I sold last year, and I'm planning to use it while I take my time designing and building another (undoubtedly overdone ;) ) camper, probably out of the redesigned 2014 Sprinter, or possibly the new Transit (T-250) van...
About a month ago, I went to a Sprinter builder's thread on another forum when I wanted to get a quick look at the work he had done. It was a great build, but he was one of those guys that showed all of the gory details of how everything went together, so it took quite a while to figure out what...
For what its worth . . . .
A place called Global Cyber Mart, selling through Amazon, has BaoFeng UV-5R 136-174/400-480 MHz Dual Band FM radios on sale for $40 each. There are 250 Amazon user reviews, some very detailed, of this handheld unit, so you can decide for yourself if it's worth the...
As March comes to a close, it's time to pass on the details of this year's Northwest SprinterFest, the annual low key West Coast get-together of Sprinter trucks, owners and interested onlookers. This NW SprinterFest, the eighth, will be held on Saturday, April 13th in Tualatin, OR, a few miles...
If it's going to be usable, I need to reduce the length of the 12V water heater I got for the XV-JP. Along those lines, I wanted to "remote" the thermostat and "using power" LED, putting them elsewhere with longer wires back to their terminals, thus eliminating the need for the beige lump at the...
There are lots of people, and lots of expertise on the Portal, so I'm sure we must have dozens of aerodynamanics experts. Or perhaps at least one.
Here's the problem . . .
Earthroamer built the XV-JPs cabin with an extension that goes over the cab, and then replaced the remaining section of...
The previous owner has pretty much toasted the interior of this van, so highest and best use is probably to turn it into a camper. That, plus the price drop, gets me to mention it here, completely FWIW:
The exterior doesn't look too desperate:
but I'm sure that the whole enterprise would be...
You didn't know it, but you need a big, weird scooter . . . :bike_rider:
I was sitting around today, not doing much of anything, when I started wondering if my Honda Big Ruckus scooter was going to work out well for my forthcoming Ewan and Charlie-like motoventure down to Tierra Del Fuego...

Imagine my surprise and pleasure at turning to page 36 of the latest Outside Magazine to find a complementary and well-deserved, if brief, writeup of the Bullet XV. Given that Outside has a circulation just short of 3/4 of a million, this is quite an accomplishment. "Behold, the ultimate...
Anyone have user opinions about the Superchips TrailDash released a few months ago?
I found a few mentions on the Jeep forums, but nothing very critical, in either sense of the word. It'd be great if there were ExPo members willing to share their thoughts.
And if you're wondering WTH a...
Friends of mine, knowing my Unimog and my other trucks, ran into this Volvo/Action Mobil rig at Cedar Breaks National Monument and quite correctly decided I'd want to see pictures. The owners were out hiking, so there was no more information that could be gathered for me. If anyone knows more...
My EarthRoamer Jeep has a 15 liter (4 gallon) Isotemp Slim 15 water heater tank behind the passenger's seat. It heats the water off an engine heat exchanger and stores it in the insulated tank.
That tank is about twice as big as I need and makes things more crowded than I'd like, but it seems...
Perhaps someone who knows about this stuff can quickly guide me . . .
I'd like to put the Wilson dual-band signal booster into the Jeep camper, but am not clear whether there's a place to mount the outside antenna where it will do any good, as the entire roof area is fiberglass:
and I...
