sounds like you haven't read the owners manual for the 4Runner... dollars to doughnuts it probably states WD hitch over 3-3500 lbs.
And you've deviated from your fact-based approach claimed earlier...
pet peeve...
when narrow vehicles tow wide campers... and the owners don't consider visibility.
Not saying a 4runner won't work... I just personally would never do it.
that's not because of the camper, specifically. that's axle wrap + loss of traction + immediate traction finding the weak point. It's not uncommon in toyota's.
2nd gen makes a huge difference. Look into the 4th gen 4runner sport that came with the 18” wheels. They have much larger rotors. @AddictedOffroad did a write up of these a few years ago. It may be you’re only real option, unless you are willing to pony up for a 1st gen Tundra big-brake option...
this is a great concept. I'm curious why more haven't done it this way..
QQ - in some of the pictures, it looks like the coil spring is hitting the bucket. Is that just an optical illusion?
neither of my Tacoma's have sway bars.... They don't "lean" during cornering as much as they "lift." And there are times it can be disconcerting, especially during braking on wet surfaces. But, I drove SAS'd rigs w/o sway bars for most of my life, so I think I've gotten used to it (mostly.) One...
Eventually I'll be welding in a crossmember between the bed and frame for the rear shocks to be mounted on properly, but for now I managed to utilize the stock shock mount locations using some slightly longer 60mm 12x1.25 grade 8 bolts - not ideal and sacrifices a good bit of up travel but it's...
Why remove the front pass seat? At least share that for the insanely curious!
Airbag light means there’s no one in the passenger seat.
there’s a Weight sensor that supposedly ensures the airbaggoes off if there’s a person in the seat, IIRC.
Not really such a thing as axle spacers… per se. There are some IFS lifts (mostly Chevy and ford, IIRC) that put a small spacer between the inner cv and axle flange, but that’s really the only axle spacer I know of.
The spacers that you see on SAS rigs are just wheel spacers.
