New to campers and surprised by the high prices. How come a camper is half the cost of a car?

Which model do you own? I think the industry has a wide variety of product quality. There are Palominos and there are Four Wheel Campers. I would hope at the prices FWC is charging the quality and workmanship are good.

How to add 12V outlets to my RV?

Thanks agree but not sure how to get just a few outlets. This is cheaper and gives me fuses for each run. I might add a 3rd outlet as well.

New to campers and surprised by the high prices. How come a camper is half the cost of a car?

Agreed but there is a huge quality difference between the $20k camper and the $45k ones, might be a higher caliber of semi-skilled labor?

How to add 12V outlets to my RV?

My RV has a pretty nice group of systems but the DC wiring and outlets are lacking. I am trying to add some outlets from the coach battery. The DC panel has two empty fuses with corresponding wires coming out the back ending with female bullet connectors. I am visiting a big city this week so...

Brass vs metal bolts in an electric system

Thanks I just intalled a plain steel bolt. I think the bolt was 8mm and I was limited in choices as there is only one hardware store and I am 2 hours from a city of any size.

New to campers and surprised by the high prices. How come a camper is half the cost of a car?

No they can't be mass produced. They don't need to be mass produced, not that many people are buying them. If a company were to invest in the equipment to automate the building of campers they would likely have to raise the price. The wiring, plumbing, cabinets and finishing still needs to be...

Brass vs metal bolts in an electric system

I am putting in the finishing touches on my battery box. I am installing a coulomb meter and in order to try to mount the shunt to the battery. I have mounted the shunt to a bit of plywood. The bolts are not long enough to catch the 3 wires rings I need to install. I went to the hardware...

Making a B+ or C Class more capable.

So I ended up with a Born Free 22. I have been out 4 times in it. It has been awesome. Because of its purchase cost and my need to keep it under budget. I want to do the following with it for short term upgrades. Locking differential. 2" lift blocks. Should I add a spring also? I am hoping...

    Leaking air bag valves.

Quick research shows a minimum would be 5 psi even when empty. 70-80 psi at full fill for the air bags.

    Leaking air bag valves.

It was really hard to reach in there and remove the old valves with the wheel in place so I waited till I was installing new valve stems with the wheel removed and it was an easy fix. I ended up just cutting the old Schrader valves off and using soapy water to install the new ones on the clean...

Do I need a mechanic to remove this heater?

The only way to turn that around is to do some research and climb under the vehicle and make it a "me" kind of thing. The first time you do it it might take a day or more to get it done and you might get greasy bust a knuckle or two and spill something toxic on your driveway. But you'll learn...

Quest for the Perfect Family Tent

I am now between the Tipi and a Springbar Hot tent. We now have a class C RV so a tent is less of an issue but plenty of times we want to leave the luxury of the RV behind.

    Leaking air bag valves.

I know for sure it is leaking out the back of the valve because I can hear it.......... loudly. I will check it out for other leaks. Unless I find something locally today. I will order this kit to ensure I have whatever it takes to fix it unless one of the boots is leaking.

    Leaking air bag valves.

Yep I am tempted to buy a whole kit with hose to have the parts around when needed. I will have to see how hard it is to get to all the parts before I replace the hosing.

    GPS recommendations for seniors

I don't know which ones would run on a laptop. I think laptops are a thing of the past in a way, although I am typing on one now. The majority of the configurations are to be run on a pad of some sort. For instance GAIA: you need a home computer or laptop to download and configure your...

    GPS recommendations for seniors

I have a subscription to GAIA and while the learning curve is a bit tough, and I am computer savvy, it is worth it and also worth the subscription fee. The setup is a bit of a pain. However, if you are willing to do the setup for him, it is possible the interface would be even easier than...

    Leaking air bag valves.

Thanks that is what I thought. Hopefully I can find the valves in the local auto parts shop. It will try pulling harder to get them free. It is in a really tight spot. I initially thought it was a threaded two piece connection and tried to unscrew the two parts of the valve. If the line is...

    Campsite scalping

I do some camping in Utah state parks, Bear Lake to visit my sailboat. I hate the reservation fee, when I can even get a spot. To add insult to injury, when a spot opens up just for the day... I also have to pay a reservation fee, cash in hand, day of the transaction, spot is open, I am not...
