(Another) Forest Living Suburban Build Thread

Hey Burb Mafia, Haven't had much time to do stuff the past few weeks, but did get some time this weekend: 1st: received a tune from Atomic last week and installed it. First impressions are amazing. Off the throttle is much, much better, almost feels like it has smaller tires and looks to get...

    GMT-800 Suburban lift options?

Looks great! I'm sure those Bilsteins will do wonders! Everyone loves them In terms of the torsion bar. You need a BIGFH. I wouldn't worry too much about wacking those bars. You need to break the rust. One of mine in my nice CA condition slid right out:) but my other one spent some time in NV...

Hey atomic, The first thing out of anybody who sat in it off-road has said something about how smooth it is, it's completely changed the truck. Yeah you can go ahead and use any of the videos or pictures. Next time I go out I'm going to bring the GoPro and I want to see it from a better view...

    Suburban tire dilemma...

Yep, you are correct, did some reading last night, and I guess less rotational mass usually is always the winner and will overcome any other downsides a taller tire will have. I was thinking grip and rollover might be a problem with heavier trucks (vs a jeep or other lighter truck) but...

    Suburban tire dilemma...

I thought about those awhile back, man they look weird on suburbans that skinny at 33's. The 35's skinny look fine for some reason (almost old school land cruiser) but the 33's when they are skinny just look too small. Also not sure about weight loading, especially towing with the skinny tires...

    Wheel Spacers; Good or Bad?

I have spacers, because I like my stock wheel on my suburban. Eventually I will get properly backspaced wheels. Spacers are not the ideal situation. It's just another spot something can fail. Saying that, the quality ones with studs are fine. Make sure they are properly installed at torque...

Voltage generated by an LED light??

Cant see on my phone, what that "middle brown swirl thing" is, but that "cap looking thing" that is horizontal is definitely a capacitor. Yes, there's no harm with some voltage staying in that loop with just the light! Also if it doesn't have a good rubber or other gasket/...

    Suburban tire dilemma...

EDIT- just read you have all the parts for the lift already!!! Just do it all! I can PM you my phone number, you run into any problems, I can walk you through it. Just do it right the first time, it won't take that long, Promise! and then you won't have to double spend on tires or anything!

    Suburban tire dilemma...

+1 to what Rayra said. No spring compressors, no special tools other than a socker. Rear is literally un clip the brake line so it doesn't snag, remove the bottom bolt on the rear shocks, and it should be enough room for the spring to come out, if not it's one extra bolt to remove one of the...

Voltage generated by an LED light??

I'm 99% sure there some type of capacitor in the circuit holding a charge not enough to excite the LED , doing the good advice above should discharge it.

Voltage generated by an LED light??

Good advice- Get a small incandescent light or something that draws a small current and connect it across the positive and negative of the light (the right tool would be a circuit tester with an light on it until the light went out), then retest and see if the current is still there. If it...

Voltage generated by an LED light??

To get it straight, you are measuring a voltage on the positive wire going to the LED from the relay, even with the battery unconnected? Could be a residual charge of some type in the light such as a capacitor or something that doesn't have enough juice to excite the diode, so it just stays...

I know, I know. I don't like pictures of it just sitting in my driveway. I never take pictures on my phone either when camping. With that in mind, I had my friend bring his nice camera out last camping trip to take some pictures becuase I knew i wouldn't.... He hasn't gotten them to me yet:(...

Hey jcoov1104. This past weekend I just redid the whole heat exchanger shower setup, and it is much, much better. My pump was being eaten up by the engine bay heat. I fit the pump, filter and mixing valves into a 18" harbor freight toolbox with quick disconnects for the heating loop. Uses a...

    Suburban tire dilemma...

+1 to this. I can do it in less than an hour, including shocks. If it's your first time, and aren't comfortable around tools, and the rust. I'd say cranking the bars, and putting in a spring spacer takes MAYBE 2 or 3 hours. It really is simple. If you aren't doing any real offroading then forget...

Hey Vortec Guys! / Sierra pickup / Suburban / Yukon etc - Finally has Index!

Sounds like a good plan. If it makes you feel better, the one truck I had this happen to (actually was my parents', but me being the car guy, when I came of age, all maintenance decisions was placed to me) had this start to leak around 90-100k miles. My parents simply topped off the coolant with...
