(Another) Forest Living Suburban Build Thread

Just got back from Yellowstone/ Grand Tetons.... First time I had ever been there.. unbelievable spot in the world. I will definitely be back.... Also, nothing better than the 2400 mile trip in a 220,000 mile vehicle. Only thing I had to do was change the oil before leaving:) It was also the...

    Silverado Expedition Truck

Wow, very professional setup. That button box and power box in the rear is a great idea and very clean looking! How do you like the Bully dog tuner? I have a suburban with the 5.3, and find my transmission needlessly downshifting up small hills when I have it on cruise control and have it...

HAHA Could have told you better:) I had that exact lift! Put some 33's on, get your use out it, and then in a few years go for the 6!

adrscout- thanks! PGW- the Coilovers are working great! The difference between the torsion bars and the coilovers at 20-60 mph off road is staggering. The truck soaks up bumps , much, much better. I also can adjust the ride height of the truck simply by adjusting the coils which is awesome...

    12v fridge in bear country?

I know this is an old thread, but figured I'd post here rather than a new thread, because through my research this is always one of the first threads to come up. After calling and speaking to many rangers in the NP and NF around the Yellowstone parks, in anticipation for my Yellowstone/ Grand...

Jcoov- I am currently redesigning the water setup. I had the pump mounted in the engine bay but I have had two pumps fail. (second one happened this weekend after only a few trips.) I am assuming it is the engine heat. Going to be putting the new pump (and thermostat) in a tool box. I will make...

2003 Suburban 1500 Pop Top Conversion

This one's been of there for over three years, it's been hit on rocks, bent the mount etc., but still works. I like the "warmer" color on them vs the white leds. Painted the trunk a month ago for color testing. The paint is rock hard, tried to scratch it and it doesn't at all. Only thing is...

2003 Suburban 1500 Pop Top Conversion

I've had those same ones on my rig for over 3 years, one of them gets condensation after going under water for a few days, but the rest all are flawless. The screws on them got some surface rusted, but I just hit them with some flat black paint to match the light body I am an in awe of those...

Advice from the maintenance and repair experts, please

Agree with the drain and not flush. I have never been a proponent of those "snake oil" remedies, but I had a beater that was worth less than the transmission when it started slipping. I put a bottle (in the 4l85e, probably need two bottles) of that Lucas "stops slip" in it and got another 15k...

Hey Vortec Guys! / Sierra pickup / Suburban / Yukon etc - Finally has Index!

Rayra, Great info! Is it possible to replace those o rings without dropping the pan? I've noticed my truck has has a lower oil pressure than the previous 150k miles, trying to rule out easy possibilities because it runs and sounds great (other than some piston slap, which seems to be normal/...

    carrying coleman fuel

Hey, you may get out more than I do, if that's just in a lantern! The stove takes the most, especially since we seem to always have it running for coffee, tea in addition to the cooking. Also- found this, seems to make the funnel unnecessary...

Building a roof rack deck on a GMT800 Suburban Z-71

When you do the floor cut, could you take measurements/ pictures? I've been putting that off for awhile now, maybe it will push me to do mine as well:)

    carrying coleman fuel

Regular 5 gallon.... I usually top it off up to 3 gallons and then fill it up to 3 when it gets to 1. Both lanterns and stove run on it, so i go through it, maybe fill every 4-6 months..., depending on how much camping. Really nice for those week long trips, don't have to worry about running out...

Adding power ports & switches, on my GMT800 Suburban

I dont remember seeing anything the last time I had it off, but I will put this on my list and good to know such a switch exists. With sleeping in the rear, will make it easy to lock/unlock the doors without fumbling to the front seat or finding the fob....

Looks great! Interesting, I don't have that rear lock button... That was stock? I wonder if the wiring is there and I can add it...

    Jelorian's 03 Z71 Suburban Build

Pm'd, Also, I seriously thought about the hidden winch mount for the front, however I am not sure if 9.5k winches are suitable for how heavy our rigs are. Your'e right it's going to depend on your use and were not going to be winching up the side of a mountain over rocker, however, I've gotten...
