A slightly silly exercise on a GMT800 Suburban, in the name of 'departure angle'

This happened to me. I bent the stock plug up and a few wires shorted turning on all my brake lights. I went the cheaper route of just ziptying a replacement plug up under the bumper, out of harms way, but easily accessible. For a stock receiver this is awesome, and I like the attention to...

    RockAuto Parts 5% discount

I have never seen a better code than 5% +free shipping for rockauto, jegs or summit that was not one-time use or account specific. Even black friday etc., it's always 5% in perpetuity

    GMT800 Gas or Diesel ??

My current 1500 (5.3 Vortec) and my past 6.0 Vortec Suburbans have been the most reliable engines I have ever owned. Both at over 200k miles each, and neither has ever left me stranded due to the engine (or really left me stranded at all). My 6.0, I would get 15 mpg combined, and my 5.3 I get...

GMT 800 LT, LS and base model fog light upgrade...

I used to have something very similar to those down there, but that valence was just asking to get ripped off off-road. I ended up adding two lights up front on top of the bumper and removed the valence. Saying that, great job on the clean install!

Going domestic, project vanilla aka the family tankster, 2004 Suburban 2500

I use a high pressure hose in there, and just clean the crap out after mud trips. I don't notice it get clogged up very often, other than after mud trips, where it gets 100 percent clogged. I'd check to make sure the rubber/ plastic blocking the entry form the wheel well is all there. Maybe, it...

Got it, well good to know there's some options. We'll see how it all ends up holding up, but like I said this doesn't change the angles at all from what I had before, so it should be just as reliable. Also, having an easily fixed and accessible weak point, is better than making the weak point...

    Coolest Pneumatic Tools & Gadgets

I use my onboard air gun to blow on fires to really turn the heat up. With the high pressure, you can almost see the wood get converted to heat. Makes starting logs, and getting a good coal bed fast. O and it's good for airing up tires and innertubes too.

The coils are PAC 14 inch coils with 650lb springs. We will see if they are heavy enough (Was on the border between 650,675 and 700. For documentation, I also went with the QA1 D701 Shocks. Interesting, never thought about having someone cut the stock ones, and adding an extension. If I start...

If you find a thin enough socket, you can even change them without lifting the truck/ removing the wheel! Yes the rough country has spacers between the flange and the stock CV. I wish there was an option to have longer CV's instead of the spacer, because it would reduce the angle even more. I...

Will do on the measuring! Would be an interesting conversion.. Mine broke on the inner tripod joint... The aftermarket axle was the wrong one and was too short, so the tripod/ball was almost all the way out of the housing at regular height, muchh the less droop... I always thought a slip...

You beat me to it, regarding the DIY modificaitons of the mounts, or making your own for your GMT400 :) Interesting, I didn't think about that with the torsion bars, makes sense. I look forward to the adjust-ability of the coil overs as well:) I need to load up the truck all the way to weight...

The UCA does not have to be removed or swung up, I can remove the shock with just the two bolts on the shock mounts(and a little pressure and finagling! Would make for easy spare changes in the field. I'm not sure about the space between the ball joints, I can measure for you if you want...

Same amount of lift as before, almost of the entirety of the Rough Country kit stayed on (diff drop bracket, dropped knuckles, etc.) Only parts that were taken off from the kit were the drop mounts for the torsion bars, and the torsion bars themselves (as well as the shocks obviously). I will...

Drove the truck today to make sure it was drive able to my alignment appointment later this week. Wow. Even with the grabby tendency due to the messed up camber (I also replaced the camber plates) I can already tell a huge difference in the truck's ability to soak up bumps. I didn't push too...

That's the only downside, not very long. I did p.m. a member on one of the other forums who has the lifted setup he said he's put 10K miles on his setup woth a bunch of offroad use with no problems except for a blown shock from the Eibach. It looks like there's a lot of lowered trucks that...

Those are the optional kicker braces from the lift kit, they sit about 2 inches lower than where the torsion bars were and provide more rigidity to the frame. The torsion bars are completely removed with the coilovers I've got an alignment appointment later this week and will give driving...

Looking for battery options now that Diehard Platinums are discontinued

Anyone find any good options? After two months, my brand new Optima bluetop deep cycle looks to be defective (quickly drops to 12.5 with no load and 12.2 with a slight load). Amazon's awesome customer service refunded me, no questions asked, so now I am in the market for a new deep cycle...
