I hope you're not right, but sadly, you probably are. On the 2nd gens, the overdrive ratio of the 6th speed is lower than the auto's 5th gear overdrive. 0.86 vs 0.79 I think. The auto guys get better mileage overall. With the new 6-speed auto, the mileage will probably be even better than the...
This thread has been very informative... Seriously. Lots of good information here and interesting perspectives.
It's funny how the thread went from "Tacoma pipe- dream wish list" (my previous post included), to "go back to 1st Gen", to "why the Tacoma will suck", to "why the new Tacoma does...
Snowboarding with a little side trip.
On the way to Kirkwood Friday night, I decided to explore some trails around Bear Creek Reservoir road. The trails were covered with snow that had melted and re-froze. Traction was an issue.
Sorry for the crappy picture.
The snow got deeper and instead...
Running Boards
My wife wanted steps for the kids. I couldn't convince her to remove the running boards on our previous 2005 4- runner. I went to Pep Boys to get some chrome Westin nerf bars, but they only had them in black. I like shiny things so that wouldn't do. I was forced to drive 3.1...
Nice build! Way more room than the Flippac. Truck campers make camping with kids doable. Nap time, changing station, lactation room...
The car seat issue is still... an issue. If we decide to be masochistic and have a 3rd kid, we'll definitely go with the Chico Keyfit 30. The Graco we had...
Another interesting thing is the front fender flare starting at the front of the doors. The flare is minimal on the 5th gen 4Runners, more significant on the Tundras, and somewhere in between on the Tacoma.
C'mon, this whole site is about vehicle modifications! We're all getting old and have way more responsibilities= no time to work on the truck. It's contradictory since we're all touting our mods, trying to be unique, while still desiring a turn-key set up. We want the basics: better mileage...
I had that issue until I read the manual and practiced with the electronic shift. Clutch in, stick in neutral... It actually works! Before that I was going backwards, forwards, and getting pissed off trying to get out of 4-Lo. This is coming from a someone who complained about the single...
The only solution that fits my needs is similar to this one:
http://www.wildboarproducts.com/racks.php
I actually drew up some plans before finding this. It would mount to the truck like an "over the camper" lumber rack. The legs would mount to an angle bracket that would bolt to the factory...
The website states that the truck is available in an XtraCab and dual cab. If I had way more money, I would get the flatbed dual cab model and swap plates/ vin codes with my truck... Mine, all mine.
Yeah, that was my crazy wish list. I get what you're saying. My last truck was a 1972 Scout- a very spartan platform. It had spray- on bedlined floors, manual choke control, no synchros for first gear, manual hubs, and a tractor engine. It did have some nice power leather seats I bought for...
I think the vinyl flooring is an option now. It is on the list for the future. Now that they're making the 2wd (non-pre runner) in a dual cab, hopefully it will be more available and not too expensive.
Nice! I slept there with some friends years ago and 2 years ago with the family. Lots of firewood and a nice cast iron stove.
Love the cabinets you guys are making. High quality and very versatile.
Many of the things I wish my Tacoma had will probably not be included with the new Tacoma:
Fully boxed frame
4:1 low range gearing
Shorter hood/ move the cab forward for better off road visibility on inclines. Use the extra length for a slightly longer bed in the DCSB or rear leg room...
My dog would really appreciate the side windows...
It would be cool to have large flip-up doors/ wing windows for an inside/ outside kitchen set-up, and easier access to tools, but I can't bring myself to cut a large opening in the side. You already have the openings...
Thanks! It is...
Nice setup! Very versatile. Too late for me now... I guess that I could use the existing holes and mount hinges if I ever need to remove it. Your truck looks great. Nice build.
Thanks! I wish that I could take credit for planning well... I eyeballed it, thought it would fit, and purchased the awning. All of the potential issues came up when I went to install it. It went something like this:
"It's gonna limit the window travel. Oh crap! I'll mount it higher... Oh...
