    Garmin Overlander

Basecamp is absolutely one of the best tools for this hardware. Multi day trips are a breeze to build. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Tablet for multiple cameras, Gaia, G maps and music?

At least in terms of the Overlander, and I was a Garmin Montana user for 8 years, and I have a current subscription to OnX Offroad, it’s at its heart, an Android tablet with a custom Garmin OS. You can build your routes on the device or on the web or even in your phone app. You can import and...

Tablet for multiple cameras, Gaia, G maps and music?

I’m imagining that with an LR3, there is significant surgery required to get an aftermarket stereo to work. I didn’t come across a harness. I guess it really depends on how much the OP is willing to modify to go this direction. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Tablet for multiple cameras, Gaia, G maps and music?

The browser plays YouTube just fine. There isn’t any audio sync issues with Bluetooth either. The native app will not load without Google play. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Tablet for multiple cameras, Gaia, G maps and music?

Haven’t found a reliable way for the Google play store. Depends on what your looking for. As far as sound quality, I pair it either to the truck stereo or any other Bluetooth speaker. Any tablet speakers are virtually pointless. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Tablet for multiple cameras, Gaia, G maps and music?

The Garmin Overlander can use up to 4 cameras, play music, YouTube etc. I sideloaded the Amazon App Store, so there’s VLC, podcast etc. The Garmin nav app is better than google maps in many cases. The Explore app is equal to Gaia in many respects, though I guess If you feel you need 250...

    Dedicated GPS/Cellular antenna setup

Does the Tacoma not have a built in LTE modem and hotspot? My ZR2 has it built in. Works great. I can see using a dedicated GPS antenna though. They are much more accurate then what’s in a typical tablet with higher update frequency. If you really wanted to go this route, I would do an LTE...

    Garmin Overlander

So a few different answers here. The Overlander has two modes and they work in tandem. Drive and Explore. You can swipe and pan on any mode no matter what your doing. You can tap right on the map to create a waypoint. In Explore, it will give you the option to edit, navigate or delete. You and...

    Garmin Overlander

You pair it with the Explore App. Everything else would be redundant from the Earthmate app. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Garmin Overlander

I just put the Amazon App Store on it. You can find it through the browser. I’ve sideloaded a few apps. But most anything worth having requires Google Play Service, which is a whole thing to try to get running properly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Garmin Overlander

Yep. That’s the one I ordered. I modified it to be hardwired. I took the end apart. Soldered new leads and potted them out of the end of the connector. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Garmin Overlander

$700 is very hard to justify for this unit. Your right. I’ve found Garmin hardware to be very reliable. I’m going on 8 years on a Garmin Montana. It still delivers on the promises that were made the day I bought it. It now lives on my brothers. ADV bike. So to me, obsolete is subjective. Will...

    Garmin Overlander

I guess I don't like pay more and more money for monthly subscriptions or making sure I have a reliable data connection on the move. It's maps. It should be loaded to memory and work. I personally found the Overlander to be more enjoyable to use and build trips than Gaia and other alternatives.

    Garmin Overlander

There is very little information on an otherwise awesome unit. I'm reloading the Map via PC. It takes like 10 mins on my end.

I'm missing Ultimate Public as well.

    Garmin Overlander

It is supposed to be loaded according to their listing on the web. I'll check my unit and report back. I wasn't aware of that POI database.

    Double Din with GPS?

Most of the standard higher end Double dine receivers by Pioneer, Alpine etc have navigation that work offline, (none of these work if off-road exploring or is comparable to Gaia, OnX, Garmin Overlander / Montana), but also Android Auto, and CarPlay that works online (and some limited offline...
