GAP Diagnostic Tools: Questions and Dream Requests!

I had a thought today, I have read that it’s not recommended to leave the IID tool connected while driving for extended periods of time, but it is really handy to be able to read coolant and transmission temps, etc. I assume the reasoning for not leaving it plugged is the potential of some type...

2004 Toyota Sequoia - Building a Family Snow Cruiser

Sounds like a fun project. I have very little experience with hauling skis around or driving in snow, but some stuff is applicable to any bad weather vehicle. For starters, I’d add a battery tender plug or Anderson connector to allow it to sit on a battery charger, ensuring it will start after...

    Help wiring solenoid switch..

My understanding of the ACR relay is it combines the batteries once the voltage on the starting battery is above 13.6 volts, meaning the engine has to be running. I believe the 3 way switch it comes with works that way in the auto setting, then you can force the batteries to combine or isolate...

    Malfunctioning Lights Galore

I don’t remember specific details but I had a D1 with similar issues and it ended up being the turn signal stalk assembly. They control many of those functions and tend to get dirty internally or wear out. I’d find the RAVE manual and start poking around with a test light first.

    Help wiring solenoid switch..

I’m not using the actual ACR module, I’m just using the switch designed for it because I assumed it could be made to work in the same manner the ACR operates with a different solenoid. I haven’t hooked anything up to the vehicle yet, I always test switches on the bench to determine the right...

    Help wiring solenoid switch..

Alright, I believe I’ve found the right switch! I haven’t actually been able to find a catalog of Carling Rocker Switches, just their decoder which means you need to find the whole part number to know what it is. In case anyone is interested in doing something similar, it’s switch...

Where to purchase LR3 front air struts?

I put an Arnott from eBay on my wife’s RR a couple years ago and have had no problems with it. Was $450 and they come with a lifetime warranty on the bags.

    Give it to me straight

I have a 2008 LR3 with 170k on the clock, and while I haven’t taken it to foreign countries yet, I regularly play ~ 100 miles deep in the National Forest with no cell signal, walking out isn’t an option, and the nearest road might not have a vehicle pass by for several days. I have had several...

What accessories requiring a 12v socket do you actually use?

I have a couple of them in my trailer, they are really nice. You can also use those ARB pods for other 1 1/8” accessories like the mentioned double USB ports, voltmeter, etc. IMO, if you’re looking to use one of the sockets you’re adding INSTEAD of one of the factory sockets (meaning not both...

    Help wiring solenoid switch..

For anybody wondering why I’m setting it up this way, it seems to have a ton of versatility. The aux fuse block will power a GMRS radio, ARB fridge plug, and iPhone charging cable. In the normal automatic mode, I don’t have to worry about anything drawing the battery down when the ignition is...

    Help wiring solenoid switch..

You’re half right. I am using the switch for it, but not the actual ACR. I had assumed how it functioned the switch would work with a different solenoid, but it may not.

    Help wiring solenoid switch..

Thanks, that’s sort of what I expected, but I hadn’t figured it out to the level that you did. The issue is that I’m not actually using the ACR, I’m using a dumb solenoid that just closes when 12v is applied. The good news is I found a switch possibility that looks like it could work, if I can...

What accessories requiring a 12v socket do you actually use?

They are an option, and I have one now. In the past though I’ve had problems with them losing contact. Plug phone in, throw it in the door pocket, somewhere along the 2.5 hr drive it quits charging, get to trailhead, grab phone, it’s 14%.

What accessories requiring a 12v socket do you actually use?

Thanks for the replies, I am in fact adding an auxiliary fuse block and suitable wiring, all properly fused. Realizing that due to the threaded ring on the back, the only spot I could replace a faulty USB outlet without tearing the dash or other panels apart is the back of the center console, I...

    Help wiring solenoid switch..

I’m in the process of adding a fuse block inside the cabin of my vehicle, controlled by a 200 amp “dumb” solenoid. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CEBXRS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I went with it over the Blue Sea ACR as I wanted the ability to have the fuse block...

    “Grab and go” setups?

This has gone off the rails quite a bit, I’m talking about taking my boys camping to get into the woods within 30 minutes to an hour of my house. I already do plenty for our local economy. I also understand animosity towards tourists that take advantage of resources for extended periods of time...

What accessories requiring a 12v socket do you actually use?

Thanks for the replies, I almost mentioned USB-C as being a possible issue, but it really hasn’t seemed to be common to me yet, though I’m not a tech guy. I have an Anker power pack that uses is, but came with a USB to USB-C cord, so it still charges via the older style port, as well as probably...

What accessories requiring a 12v socket do you actually use?

As the title says, I’m curious to hear how useful 12v cigarette lighter sockets are in this day and age. My LR3 has four of them, and I’m considering replacing some of those with dual USB sockets, as the only accessories I have that use them are a 12v shower and potentially an air bed...

    Cutting the Fat. Bumpers???

If the $ situation is as tight as you say it is, that the LR3 gas bill isn’t affordable, you need to look at something like a $5,000-$7,000 Honda Civic. Putting a ton of miles on a newish car you’re making payments on will always leave you upside down in it. It’s another story if it’s...

    Cutting the Fat. Bumpers???

Regardless of MPG improvements, which I expect will be very slight aside from removing the roof rack, $3,000 would buy a lot of gas, so I’d look at it that way. I’d find somebody local to swap bumpers with rather than dealing with buying OEM ones, shipping, etc.
