    Bruiser the Adventure Cargo Trailer

So far yes. There are certainly advantages to having dual axles, but I'm not sure I would benefit from them with this trailer. Plus, the extra axle added 500 lbs and ~$1K to the cost of the trailer.

Back to the differential gear debate. For the foreseeable future I'll be running some variant of 33 or 34" tire and various states of heavy. I would rather be undergeared than overgeared, but still within reason. After driving DaVike's truck on 4.56s I'm leaning towards 4.88s with an ARB in the...

    Bruiser the Adventure Cargo Trailer

I always try and clarify, I can't tell you how many people I run into that say, "Couldn't you have bought something like that already? Why do you need to make it? It's just going to cost more time and money."

Dexter 3500# axle spindle nut retaining ring HELP!

From inboard to outboard it should go washer -> nut -> gold ring. It prevents the nut from loosening up and falling off.

Thanks! And I always appreciate seeing how other people have accomplished similar tasks. I like to tuck those techniques away for later, never know when they will come in handy. I chose to weld partially because it's a skill I've always wanted to teach myself and this provided the opportunity...

    2019 Tacoma TRD Pro

Cool to see them come from the factory with bypass shocks. And they at least get an atta boy for the snorkel, despite it being kinda heinous. But still with the rear drum brakes...

    2019 Tundra

Right? I can never figure out how intentionally designing flexibility (at least to the degree exhibited by the Tacoma) into the frame as opposed to the suspension could be construed as a positive. IMO, make the truck a truck and nudge those seeking a comfortable ride into a more appropriate...

You aren't kidding. The Taco still isn't the world's best tow rig at elevation, but this one should be much kinder to the truck. :)

Part of the plan has been to hang an 8' ARB awning off the side of the trailer. In non-windy situations, it does a great job at providing protection from the elements or a nice place to hang out in the evening. Deployed it looks like so: 20160528-IMG_1374 by Tim Souza, on Flickr For those...

    06 4runner 4wd light flashing

Not to insult your intelligence (seen plenty of people get tripped up on this sequence), but are you following the 4wd shifting procedure properly? As in, shifting into 4H, waiting for that to engage, then shifting the transmission into neutral before shifting into 4L? During bench testing...

    06 4runner 4wd light flashing

When it comes to 4wd actuators, it's true, if you don't use it you lose it. IIRC, Toyota recommends at least 10 miles/month on my Tacoma to keep things functioning properly. Seems like the most likely culprit.

Finally had the opportunity to drop the truck off at the shop on Friday to get a few things taken care of. For reference, all work was done by Corey at Insain Fabrications (http://www.insainfab.com) outside Denver, CO. Great guy, great work, and can tackle any sort of work from mild to wild at a...

Heavy sliders not smart for long-term overlanding?

With the rocker panels being such a vulnerable area when navigating trails, even moderate ones, I would rather regret spending $500 on a set of sliders and never needing them than have an oopsie with $500 to fix the rocker AND another $500 to get some sliders. Plus, if you get fill plates they...

    Frame rust inspection

The worst parts of the frame tend to be the boxed sections where they rot from the inside out. If you are going to repaint, consider picking up a few cans of this stuff: https://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-internal-frame-coating-14oz-aerosol.html

Spent a little (okay, a lot) o ftime working on the truck over the weekend. It was a weekend full of tasks that needed to be done but are completely hidden and nobody but me will ever appreciate the time and effort it took to complete. Ever since I bought the truck there has been one glaring...

    Bruiser the Adventure Cargo Trailer

Made a bit of progress on the trailer over this past week. I will be adding a few exterior accessories that require a bit of work to the frame, namely the awning and a skylight above the bed area. In preparation for the structural changes I pulled off the walls, the ceiling, and all of the...

It is custom ordered. :) We knew ahead of time that we wouldn't need a ramp door or swinging doors in the back; something that could have a screen and locked from the inside was more important. Likewise, having a door up towards the front was going to spoil our floor plan, so we requested only...

You are right, those 37s provide a much more balanced, proportional look to the truck. I'm diggin it.
