Edgar: The adventures and ramblings of a high mileage 1992 Chevy K1500 RCSB

"Another flaw in the human character is that everybody wants to build and nobody wants to do maintenance." - Kurt Vonnegut (from the novel Hocus Pocus) Enter Edgar, our 1992 Chevy K1500 regular-cab, short bed pickup where this notion from 'ol curt holds especially true. My Dad and I bought him...

    Hummer Builds

Very cool! Looks like some serious (H1 style) under-body protection. From the moment I first read the first "new vehicle off road test" for the H2 in Four Wheeler when they were new, I was interested. On paper there was and still is a lot to like: 34.5" tires from the factory with some of the...

Project: Blanco, The 2007 F350 Standard Cab Adventure Truck

Very cool truck Metcalf and for sure, a great combination of parts from the factory. I've often thought that this generation of Superdutys are the best looking standard-cab/long bed combo out there. You also can't beat 16mpg unloaded...

Why are other full size SUV's not used in overlanding/offroading as often as Forerunner/Landcruiser?

Huh, for some reason I've been thinking for years that the LC200 had IRS... I obviously haven't been paying close enough attention. It is a nice looking rig IMHO (not a fan of the ground effects/skirting but see that those are optional), but the price always kills me, but that is also true about...

Why are other full size SUV's not used in overlanding/offroading as often as Forerunner/Landcruiser?

I’ve complied a list of word(s)/non-words that I think could be suitable replacements to Overlanding... ? (cough cough) -LowPressurePneumaticTyreBushFaring -DirtSchlepping -ContstantVelocityTraversing (IFS/IRS folks) -NonConstantVelocityTraversing (strait axle folks) -PortalPeregrination...

Why are other full size SUV's not used in overlanding/offroading as often as Forerunner/Landcruiser?

This has been a fun and interesting thread... I've always been curious about how perspectives change over time and what vehicles folks get drawn towards and also what vehicles trend in certain groups. My current truck is a '92 K1500, regular cab, short bed with a 5.7 TBI and NV4500 5-speed...

    M1010 Build. The Rompulance

Very cool! All of that headroom looks like it will make for a very practical, comfortable set up! I absolutely understand the want to have headroom in the cab-over/bed portion. There's nothing more annoying then having to sit at a weird angle while reading or working on a device while laying in bed.

Whoa! You raised the roof indeed! Looking forward to seeing your new buildup. Out of curiosity, whats the total height now?

I just found your thread yesterday when I was sitting down to call it a night and have a cold Puppers and couldn’t stop following along. Thank you so much for taking us along with you and your wife on all of your travels, adventures, hunting, fishing, camping and of course, the build-up and...

    Larry's 1978 K10

Thanks a million nitro_rat and Larry, great info! Also, very interesting on the TR-4050. Before they folded and combined into Four Wheeler Magazine (ending of an era), Petersen's 4 Wheel and Offroad had a short blurb on the TR-4050 but the info they had was limited to the specific swap they were...

    Larry's 1978 K10

I've been enjoying the heck out of your builds and adventures Larry! The new K5 build is looking mighty fine! I have some questions about your 9.5" 14-bolt SF and locker selection that have been bugging me for quite some time that I was wondering if you had any insight on since you're traveling...

Lets see some full size pictures...

Here's a wet, blurry photo of my 1992 K1500 regular cab, short bed midway through a 14 inch snowfall near Tacoma, WA in 2017. It's a weirdly optioned truck that has worked well for exploring around Mt. Rainer. Factory equipped with the 6.34:1 early NV4500 5-speed manual, NP241, 5.7 TBI and...

1972 GMC K20 Dubbed "The Wilson Project" ***UPDATES***

Gotcha! Sounds like a bullet-proof combination all around to me and thanks for the info Northfacetraveler. It's hard to go wrong with ARB air-lockers front and rear and the front 52" spring conversion is very cool! I wasn't super familiar with the Holly Terminator X Max system so I looked it up...

1972 GMC K20 Dubbed "The Wilson Project" ***UPDATES***

Very cool build, I'm digging your approach and build-up so far! What a cool truck (always loved the lime-gold color) with a bullet-proof drive-train that your building. I probably missed it in a previous post, but does your truck have the Dana 44 front and Eaton H072 full floater rear axle? I'll...

2000 Suburban K1500 budget low lift with 37"s

Cool build CrazyDrei, I like your low-budget approach! While 37 inch tires are indeed a lot of tire for 8.25" IFS front differential (or any 8-1/4" differential come to think of it) and CVs, my humble advice and an option that I haven't seen anyone mention is "carry a spare CV axle" and have...

    Suggestions On Honda CL350

Great to hear Steinkunde! After reading through your thread, I believe you are getting some solid advice and I'm glad that your reviving your Dad's old scrambler! When fixed up, fettled with and after a few of the old bike bugs are worked out, it should make a great bike for you to get around...

    The Bowman Odyssey Rig

Awesome, just flat-out awesome Zach! It makes me all sorts of happy to see you and your family out exploring and traveling the roads less traveled (literally) and I love the approach you all decided to take. Just read TheDrive article as well; good stuff! I was a big fan of your writing at R&T...
