Why are other full size SUV's not used in overlanding/offroading as often as Forerunner/Landcruiser?

I'll take the blame @4BT... I usually have that effect on things...nice Civics guys! ? What I was getting at with the Honda Civic mention is that for me, any given person has to be very specific in what their definition of overlanding/off-roading/expedition-travel/camping is to make this...

Why are other full size SUV's not used in overlanding/offroading as often as Forerunner/Landcruiser?

I heard a saying once from an older member of my community that applies to no particular group or nationality but holds true to anyone I speak to, any place in the world, whether you were born in Neodesha, Kansas or Pyryatyn in the Urkraine (thanks for the insight Vasily! Also for the Baltika...

    2005 Chevrolet C-5500 4X4 Dump Truck 8.1l gas, Allison 47k miles (eBay) N.C.

Wow! Now that’s a truck... interestingly packaged to boot! I wonder what kind of mileage it gets with the 8.1 ? I was also surprised to see an electronically shifted transfer case. This thing is pretty deluxe

Edgar: The adventures and ramblings of a high mileage 1992 Chevy K1500 RCSB

That makes total sense @nitro_rat. That assuming is getting me into trouble again! The new rear springs are supposed to come today, looking forward to checking those out. Also waiting on a box with all the little stuff for the rest of the rear axle install. Decided to have the drums turned at...

Here’s also a photo of the worst U-joint I’ve ever pulled out of something, a Spicer 1330 out of the front driveshaft of my buddy’s 2006 Nissan Titan with 75k miles on it. It was more clacky then a tap dancer and more wallered then an out of control post-hole auger. All of the needle bearings...

Small update, got the rear leaves ordered (decided to go with the F44-spec 4/1 leaves, can always pull a leaf down the road if they’re too stiff ?) and a WFO concepts U-bolt flip kit which has beefy 5/8” U-bolts and 3/8” thick spring plates. I was originally going to go with a Off-road...

2006 Freightliner M2 Crew Cab flatbed with sleeper (eBay) $19,500 Iowa

That looks like fun. That’s a lot of truck for the money!

    Next truck

@phsycle I know the AFM issues are not to be overlooked, but figured I'd share my experience helping my brother buy a newer, lower mileage used truck since it's in the same wheelhouse as some of the trucks you're looking at. He tows a Grand Design 2600RB travel trailer fairly regularly (29ft...

Thanks again for the info @nitro_rat, that is all exactly what I needed! I'll definitely give it a go. I was wondering about the crush sleeve... it sounds like a crush-sleeve eliminator kit would be good for a first timer as if I don't get it quite right the first time, it sounds like I won't...

Guess who's back!?! Atl-atl's K5 Blazer + Four Wheel Camper "The Crawlin Cabin" documentation thread!

What a cool rig! Congratulations! It's super cool to see all of the original documentation too!

Thanks @chilliwak much obliged and cheers back to ya! I've enjoyed you're thread over the years and am a fellow Rochester Quadrajet enthusiast! Just helped a friend rebuild a terrible computer controlled E4ME on his '82 El Camino with a 305. I have a feeling he'll eventually ditch it and...

Good to know! I can imagine that the manual transmission combined with the short wheel base rig that’s light in the back would be a bad idea, especially an aggressive one like a Detroit! I like the eLocker option, especially since I have no plans for onboard air (for an ARB) other then a small...

Open. At the time I was trying to chase down a 4:10 Gov-lock unit (and then grab a matching GT5 4:10 front diff to match) but didn’t have any luck and this one came along for a good deal so I grabbed it. A traction-adder would be nice though!

Here’s a look inside the ‘94 Chevy K2500 LD rear diff. Looks pretty good but I haven’t investigated it with a fine tooth comb yet. The truck it came out of had around 140k miles. With all the rebates from the tire purchase years back, I made a total impulse purchase and got a Chaos Fab diff...

So, remember the conversation about driveshaft modification for the new 9.5” 14 bolt SF rear axle so I wouldn’t have to use a conversion U-joint? It turns out for this truck that’s null and void. I just climbed under the truck with my digital calipers and measured the cap size on the front and...

    84 K20 6.2 Diesel

The rig is looking great @nitro_rat. You can't beat a square-body Suburban and the distance yours has traveled is incredible! My neighbor growing up as a kid had a 1991 V20 Suburban that was fully loaded that we rode around in quite a bit. Unfortunately it met an untimely end in the early 2000s...

Of course, it was a beautiful day out so you have to take the dog for a ride in the truck. For most dogs this is exciting, for labs they loose their minds! ?
